The Orange Lantern is one of the most corrupting forces in the DC Comics universe. Green Lantern rings choose those with the ability to overcome great fear, but greedy individuals are drawn to orange rings. Because of the greedy nature of the corps, there is usually only ever one Orange Lantern.

10 Boomerang Is Marvel's Worst Criminal

Boomerang leads the Superior Foes

Fred Myers, a.k.a. Boomerang, first appeared in Tales to Astonish #81. In Marvel's Silver and Bronze Ages, Fred was fairly one-dimensional. He was a C-list Spider-Man villain at best, but Nick Spencer injected some much-needed levity and lovableness into the character during the Superior Foes of Spider-Man comic series.

During Superior Foes, Fred led the Sinister Six, which only included five members, as they attempted to steal a portrait of Doctor Doom unmasked. The series was hilarious and Fred shined as a character. While Fred is no villain, his need to prove himself and pull off "big scores" outweighs his better judgment.

In Amazing Spider-Man vol. 3, Black Cat even briefly became a crime lord of New York.

Sinister has little regard for others as long as he gets what he wants.

Despite his horrific treatment of mutants and humans, Mister Sinister can be deceptively charming, luring people into joining his mission. He developed a fascination with Cyclops and Jean Grey. He even created a clone of Jean named Madeline Pryor, who he used to torment the couple further.

Mephisto snarling in a black suit in Marvel Comics

Mephisto is Marvel Comics' version of the devil, and he makes deals as the devil does. These deals have led to the creation of Ghost Rider, the retconning of Peter and Mary Jane's marriage in "One More Day," and countless other events. While Mephisto offers things in return, like a spared loved one or more power, he always takes something for himself.

Mephisto possesses godlike power, so gaining the power of an Orange Lantern ring would provide him very little. Nevertheless, the ring would seek him out. Mephisto's motives have always been selfish, and it was revealed in Amazing Spider-Man vol. 5 that his dealings have all been in an effort to save his own skin.

1 Norman Osborn Seeks Wealth And Power Above All Else

Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in Marvel comics

While the Green Goblin's true identity was a mystery for all of Lee and Ditko's run on Amazing Spider-Man, the character possessed qualities that Norman Osborn still has to this day. Green Goblin's earliest appearances involved trying to take over the criminal underworld of New York.

After John Romita joined Amazing Spider-Man and the Goblin was revealed to be Norman, Osborn made Spider-Man his top priority. Norman's life has been dominated by greed and selfish pursuits. In Nick Spencer's ASM run, it was revealed that Norman traded Harry's soul for his own success. There's no Marvel character more heartless and deserving of an Orange Lantern ring than Norman Osborn.
