The superhero genre contains an extensive catalog of powers, mutations, and abilities for storytellers to pick for their cast of characters. Some characters can control the elements, some can control gravity, and some can control other characters. Then there are those who can control the movement of their hair.

Admittedly, this is not a common nor a popular power, but it is also not a weak nor inconsequential one, either. If Tangled has taught us anything, it's that those with long, luscious locks of hair are not to be trifled with. This is especially true when a character has full control of their hair and is also a superhero in other aspects as well.

10 Medusa

Medusa is without a doubt the most recognizable Marvel character to have prehensile hair. She is well-known as the Queen of the Inhumans and a fierce fighter with equally fierce follicles. She rules her people alongside her husband Black Bolt while sharing a telepathic connection to him.

As for her hair, it can double its length when needed and lift objects over 1,000 pounds. Adding in the fact that her immune system is stronger than the average Inhumans', she sets a high standard for other characters with controllable hair.

9 Rapunzel

Given the trend of basing comic book characters off of classic literature, it shouldn't come as a surprise that a heroine gets based off of Rapunzel. Little is known about this mutant aside from starring in a single issue of Marvel: The Lost Generation as a member of the First Line.

She can grow her hair as long as she likes and use it as a whip or lasso, and she uses wrist-mounted knives to cut it off as it needed. What's unique about her hair is that it possessed a mesmerizing aspect that once pacified an enraged Yeti. It's probably best she isn't around anymore, otherwise there would be a lot of hair to clean up.

8 Lorelei Travis

Although her physical strength isn't much to talk about, the strength of Lorelei Travis's hair is another story. Lorelei is a former exotic dancer and among the 198 mutants who retained their powers after M-Day.

For the most part, Lorelei did her best to stay out of trouble despite the mistreatment she received from mutant-hating bigots. The only times she gets into brawls are when she is being controlled, or to defend others. Other than that, she remains one of the more neutral mutants in Marvel.

7 Nocturne

Interestingly, having prehensile hair isn't even the oddest aspect of Angela Cairn. She used to be a regular police officer until Baron Zemo captured and subjected her to his experiments. As a result, she was turned into a bat-like creature and went on the run with fellow outcast Puma.

As to be expected in comics, she had a few misunderstandings with Spider-Man that led to them fighting. Ultimately, they worked out their differences and he let her go once he realized that she wasn't a bad person. Except for an appearance in Marvel Voices #1 she's been largely absent ever since.

6 Wyre

The obscure character of Alpha Flight known as Wyre is unique compared to other characters that fall under this topic: He is one of the only men with prehensile hair, and he uses his body hair in his fights.

More importantly, Wyre can control his "hair" thanks to enhancements that he received that allow him to mentally control inorganic fibers. Admittedly, it's a bit of a stretch to call that his hair, but it's not too different from him getting hair implants.

5 Luna Maximoff

The Multiverse can work in strange ways and create bizarre alternate versions of characters. Like Earth-98, where the Fantastic Four and other heroes have been operating for thirty-seven years and the night Gwen Stacy died ended differently compared to the main continuity.

It's also where Luna Maximoff, daughter of Crystal and Quicksilver, has grown into a rebellious teen and inherited a special ability from her mother's side of the family. She mostly uses her gift to pull pranks and pick up cans of beer, but she's also saved members of her family from being sucked into the Negative Zone.

4 Composite

Even in the far off future of the 31st Century, Loki's deviousness has no bounds. That includes using a selective breeding program and genetic manipulation to create a being that possesses the powers of the Inhuman royal family.

Known as Composite, it shares the abilities and physical features of Black Bolt, Medusa, Triton, Gorgon, and Karnak and includes their strength, magic, prehensile hair, and destructive voice. Using a specialized mask to let them talk, Composite has devoted his life to Loki and commands his army of enslaved Inhumans.

3 Sedna

Norse Mythology wasn't the only folklore influenced by superhuman aliens. The Inua, or Northern Gods, were also powerful beings that influenced the Marvel world, including the sea spirit Sedna.

Among her various powers include waterbending the frozen oceans of the North, advanced sorcery and seduction skills, and of course, full control of her frond-like hair. She tried to force Thor into spending eternity with her as her mate but she was repelled back by him and Namor.

2 Delphyne Gorgon

Gorgons tend to get a bad rap just because they were cursed ages ago by the gods to have snakes for hair. Granted, there is a chance they could turn people to stone, but Delphyne can't do so without using a special golden helm.

Besides, there's more to her aside from having living, hissing hair. She's also a trained combatant that's attempted to kill Athena, served as Queen of the Amazons, and had a fleeting romance with Amadeus Cho. All of that makes her snakey look like the least interesting aspect of her.

1 Scream

Getting wrapped up in anybody's hair can be unsettling, but when that someone has a symbiote and a love of killing it gets a lot worse. Scream is just one of those symbiotes that were forcefully spawned from the Venom symbiote.

So far, Scream has had three humans hosts and each one was gifted long, lethal locks. Lately, Scream has bonded with a homeless girl named Andrea Benton and the two have come to an agreement to work together to survive. Time will tell when that murderous mane will make another appearance.
