Ever since he was first introduced in Detective Comics #27 in 1939, Batman has gone up against some amazing supervillains. It isn't always fun and games int he Batcave though and there have been more than a few times the Dark Knight has thrown down with a hero or two. In most cases, he prepares himself for each and every one of these battles so he can come out on top, but that can't always be the case. What about those heroes and villains from a completely different universe? Would the Dark Knight be able to stand against the likes of Spider-Man, Thanos, Thor or the Incredible Hulk? Some of these questions have been answered by the good people at Marvel and DC while others remain the talk of comic book fans across the world.

Granted, any list like this is purely subjective and any fan of the Dark Knight will tell you, with enough preparation, Batman could defeat anyone. For the sake of argument, and to keep this list interesting, we are assuming he wasn't able to prepare fully for each and every one of these engagements. .. they are, after all, taking place in another universe, which precludes an inability to properly prepare. Some of them have actually happened in the crossover books while others are pure speculation and the topic of conversation over on sites like Redditt or Quora. Whatever your opinions on the Dark Knight, he isn't incapable of losing, which is why we were able to come up with this list of 10 Marvel Characters That Batman Could Beat Without Breaking A Sweat (10 Marvel Characters That Could Take Him Down).

20 BATMAN BEATS: CYCLOPS

Cyclops-Scott-Summers

This fight pits two incredibly talented tacticians against one another in a fight that would surely destroy a lot of scenery. On the one side, Batman is a master tactician, a capable martial artist who has mastered around 127 fighting styles and he has the gear to stand up to just about anyone.

On the other side is Cyclops, the leader of and original member of the X-Men who has stood up to the likes of World Breaker Hulk. When it comes to these two fighting, Batman has the edge in fighting style, tactics and ability to overcome, but Cyclops has the better weapon: his ocular blast. The only problem: he would have to hit Batman. If they fought, it's unlikely Bats would let that happen, which is why the Dark Knight takes the lead in this battle.

19 BEATS BATMAN: MOON KNIGHT

When it comes to Batman-esque characters in the Marvel Universe, you don't have to look much further than Moon Knight. He is much like Batman given that he is rich, a capable fighter, and able to defeat pretty much anyone he goes up against. He might be a bit insane as to his origin story, but what vigilante isn't a little nuts?

In terms of skills, Batman takes the lead though they are closely matched. Bats has far more skill when it comes to tactical planning and figuring out how to defeat a foe, but Moon Knight has the power behind him to take on any foe. If they were to go toe-to-toe, the battle would likely go on for as long as either man could take it, but ultimately Moon Knight would be the one left standing.

18 BATMAN BEATS: PUNISHER

Batman vs Punisher

For most of these fights, we have to rely on supposition and conjecture, but not when it comes to the battle between Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, and the Dark Knight. You might think Batman has the obvious edge in this fight given his skills, but you may be forgetting that while Castle relies on firepower, he is a highly-skilled and decorated combat veteran with numerous fighting skills to his name.

The two fought a brutal battle, but when it finally came down to who won, Batman put a literal stop to Castle's fist and declared the fight over. When you get right down to it, Castle is a bruiser like Wayne, but Bats can counter any firearm with the right bat-suit and a fist-fight between the two couldn't be won by anyone other than Batman.

17 BEATS BATMAN:

Comparing these two characters and determining who would win in a fight is something you might hear in any comic book store on the planet. On the one side, you have Batman who wears body armor, is the best martial artist in his universe and has the weapons and money needed to counter any threat or foe.

In the other corner, we have Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil. He is also one of the best martial artists in his universe, doesn't wear body armor and has little money. One edge he does have is his extra-sensory perception. So long as Batman was unaware of this (and his weakness to extremely loud noises), it seems likely Daredevil would win if the two were to come to blows. It would be a major fight, but Bats would be the one left on the ground.

16 BATMAN BEATS: ELEKTRA

elektra-variant-adi-granov-header

Like Daredevil, Elektra Natchios is one of the best martial artists in the Marvel Universe. She is more than capable with an edged weapon and more than a match for the likes of Batman. Were the two to fight one another, the battle would certainly be intense, but Elektra would probably not be the one standing at the end of their fight.

Batman has the skills to stand up to Elektra, but he also comes equipped with more "firepower" and the ninja skills Elektra could never match. She once succumbed to one of her own sais at the hands of Bullseye and seeing as Bats would probably beat Bullseye in a fight, we have to give the edge to the Dark Knight in this match.

15 BEATS BATMAN: SPIDER-MAN

Spider-Man is about as iconic to Marvel Comics as Batman is to DC, which is why many people often wonder what a fight between these two industry titans would look like. We already know Bats has the fighting skills to take on anyone of equal skill, but what about a guy who can avoid being hit by anything Batman throws his way?

With enough preparation, Batman would likely have a way of countering Pete's Spidey-Sense, but that remains unlikely. Without his stealth abilities and nearly superhuman ability to take out anyone, Batman would struggle against both Pete's quick reflexes and his annoying wit, which the Dark Knight would surely loathe. We have to give this one to our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man seeing as he might be the one guy who could wear down Batman.

14 BATMAN BEATS: IRON FIST

In terms of Marvel's greatest martial artist, most people would say that honor falls to Iron Fist. Danny Rand, aka the Immortal Iron Fist, has the fighting skills of Batman, but with a twist. Not only can he beat anyone he comes across, he also has the ability to channel his chi into his fist and create an invulnerable weapon.

Batman doesn't have one of those, but what he does have are the martial arts skills comparable to Rand, the money Rand has (they are both disgustingly wealthy) and the armor and toys needed to counter something like an invincible, glowing fist. In all likelihood, Batman would immobilize Danny's fist within a few seconds and pummel on him relentlessly until he said "Uncle."

13 BEATS BATMAN: DOCTOR DOOM

Body By Doom: 20 Weird Secrets About Dr. Doom's Body And Armor

Doctor Victor Von Doom does not have the fighting skills of someone like Batman, but he has an ego equal to the task. This is one guy who will stop at absolutely nothing to accomplish his goals, which has made him an enemy of just about everyone in the Marvel Universe... and he couldn't be prouder of that fact.

The only reason Doom might beat Batman in a fight has to do with the fact that he would fight dirty, unleash thousands of Doom Bots at the Dark Knight, somehow trick him into defeating himself or by simply blasting him to kingdom come with his energy blasts. Bats could probably take him if he knew who he was before meeting Doom, but if the two fought on a whim, Bats loses the upper hand.

12 BATMAN BEATS: KINGPIN

Spider-Man-Kingpin

When Spider-Man first met the Kingpin of Crime, Wilson Fisk, he thought he was a large, fat tub of goo. It turned out, his bulky size was the result of his having the most toned muscles on the planet. Unfortunately for Fisk, his muscle looks like fat for some reason, but that only serves him by lulling his enemies into a false sense of confidence.

Fisk doesn't have any major fighting styles, but if you had to compare him to a DC villain in league with Batman, he most closely resembles Bane. So long as Batman doesn't let himself get pulled into a bear hug by this guy, there's little doubt he could beat him. It's just a matter of keeping his distance and striking when the right opportunity presents itself, which is something Batman excels at.

11 BEATS BATMAN: PSYLOCKE

Betsy Braddock, aka Psylocke, is another expert martial artist in the Marvel Universe who is more than capable of defending herself against pretty much anyone. Not only is she a capable fighter, but she also has certain psychic abilities that enable her to get into the minds of her enemies and make them see what she wants them to see. She can also form telekinetic energy into psychic blades.

Unfortunately, those blades wouldn't stand up to the swords Batman might employ in his defense... and offense against Psylocke. She would then take an advantage in their battle with her psychic powers, which Batman would be completely unprepared for. Once they got into a fight, it might go on for a while, but in the end, Batman would be the one to take a beating.

10 BATMAN BEATS: BLACK WIDOW

Many fans of the MCU know of Black Widow as an incredibly capable woman who stands beside the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, and the Hulk. Her representation on the silver screen is pretty accurate, but her comic book self is far more capable than what we have seen Scarlett Johansson perform. She is one of the best fighters and marksman in the Marvel Universe.

While she may be more than a threat to pretty much anyone in the Marvel Universe, Batman isn't just anyone. He has the skills needed to take on the likes of Natasha Romanova, but this is one fight we would like to see. Two expertly skilled fighters with no superpowers would likely result in a draw, but we had to give the edge to Bats in this one due to his skills and abilities.

9 BEATS BATMAN: CABLE

Cable Avengers

Cable is one of the more interesting Mutants from the Marvel Universe thanks to his originating from an alternate, future timeline. He recently made his debut appearance on the silver screen in Deadpool 2, which clearly showed a man most people wouldn't want to mess with. He was pretty close to his comic book counterpart, which helps us visualize how this fight might play out.

Both characters are able to beat on one another, but Cable possesses knowledge and technology from the future, which gives him a notable edge. Even with these advances, Batman would ultimately take the upper-hand in a fight between the two, but if Cable were to employ his psychic abilities against the Dark Knight in just the right way, the fight would lean in his favor leading to Batman's defeat.

8 BATMAN BEATS: GREEN GOBLIN

Batman has to deal with a lot of psychopaths in his line of work. From people like the Joker to men like Scarecrow, there's no shortage of dangerous villains willing to cross the line to see their dreams come to fruition. The Green Goblin is, in many ways, Spider-Man's Joker and a battle between Batman and the Goblin would be something to see.

Both men have a great deal of money and advanced equipment at their disposal, which places them in somewhat of the same class. The only problem for Gobby is his inability to engage in fisticuffs like the Dark Knight. He has his pumpkin bombs, but they are no match to the fighting skill, drive, and determination of Batman when he gets good and ready for some butt-kicking.

7 BEATS BATMAN: DEADPOOL

Uncanny Avengers Deadpool

Deadpool is one of those characters who may seem silly at times, but he is probably the most skilled assassin in the Marvel Universe. This is a guy who is more than capable with a firearm, edged weapon or whatever else might be lying around should the need arise to take out a target. Add to that the fact that he's immortal and you have a serious threat to the Dark Knight.

If the two were to come to blows, about the only way Batman could take the advantage would be to cut off Wade Wilson's head. Now, we all know that wouldn't kill him, but Batman would never do that as it would violate his code. He could wail on Wade for days, but never beat him, which is why the winner in this fight has to be Deadpool.

6 BATMAN BEATS: CAPTAIN AMERICA

Batman vs Captain America

This is another battle we don't have to imagine seeing as the good people at Marvel and DC have made it happen. When Batman engages against Captain America, he is outmatched... big time. Let's face it, Steve Rogers is the peak human in the Marvel Universe and while Bruce Wayne is the same thing over at DC, he had to work for it while Rogers just drank some orange juice.

Super Soldier Serum aside, Cap is an expert fighter and he has his handy shield. When the two fought, the only reason Batman took the advantage for even a second was due to their fight moving down to the dark sewer where Cap slipped. This gave Bats the opening he needed to land a blow, but that's about as far as it went before the fight came to a conclusion.

5 BEATS BATMAN: WOLVERINE

Wolverine costume

Batman is the most skilled fighter you will find in the DC Universe, but Wolverine is easily his equal over at Marvel. Not only has he studied multiple martial arts, but he's also had a few lifetimes to perfect them, which makes him a difficult opponent to defeat. Oh, he also has six retractable, indestructible claws coming out of his fists... there's always that.

Sometimes Wolverine seems invincible, but he truly isn't. He has lost a fight or two in his day and this fight really could go either way. Even with his mutant abilities and adamantium skeleton, with enough preparation, Batman would find a way to defeat him. If this living weapon never popped his claws, Batman would probably win easily. However, once Bats hears "Snikt," all bets are off. Without an electromagnet, teleportation trap, or similar technical advantage, Wolverine should be able to win a standard Bat-fight.

4 BATMAN BEATS: DOCTOR OCTOPUS

Marvel Comics Doctor Octopus Artwork

Doctor Octopus is one of those characters who seems, on the surface, as if he would be an easy pushover, but he never was. Even with a little webbing in his face, he is only ever slowed down for a little bit and it takes a whomp on the head to take him out. His extra arms are a serious threat to anyone he comes across and over the years, he has evolved into one of Spider-Man's greatest enemies.

Compared to Batman, Otto does have an advantage... or four, but even with those extra arms, it seems unlikely Batman wouldn't gain the advantage in a fight. His expert ability to dodge them means it would only be a matter of time before he got close enough to deliver a knockout blow rendering Doc Oc unconscious and out of the fight.

3 BEATS BATMAN: IRON MAN

Captain America Civil War Iron Man

A supposed fight between Batman and Iron Man is always on the minds of fans given the similarities between the characters. Like Bruce Wayne, Tony Stark is disturbingly wealthy and capable of fighting crime in any way he sees fit. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the time (or desire) to master any forms of martial arts, which is why he put his genius into inventing the weaponry that would become his Iron Man armor.

This fight would come down to the difference between Batman's ability to thwart any threat and the integrity of Stark's armor. His weapons would likely be rendered moot by Batman, but Stark's superior armor would probably win out in the end. It is just far too powerful compared to the Bat-Suit and it's unlikely an unprepared Batman could stand up to it for long.

2 BATMAN BEATS: THE HULK

Batman vs the Incredible Hulk

You might not think it was possible, but not only has Batman fought the Hulk in the crossover comics, he actually beat him. This doesn't seem possible because there is absolutely no way Batman could harm the Hulk with any of his gadgets, tricks or amazing punches. The only way the Dark Knight could possibly beat the Incredible Hulk is with something far simpler: gas.

As the Hulk came at him, Bats deployed some knockout gas and fitted himself with a handy Bat-Respirator (because all of his toys have to have the word "Bat" in them). He held himself back as the beast lumbered towards him and only breathed a sigh of relief when the Jade Giant finally succumbed to the gas right before his feet.

1 BEATS BATMAN: BLACK PANTHER

Black Panther Movie

There are a lot of comparable characters to Batman over at Marvel. We already discussed Moon Knight and Iron Man, but the one who compares the most to Bats is probably T'Challa, otherwise known as the Black Panther. Like Bruce Wayne, he has an inexhaustible supply of cash, but he also has the fighting skills of Batman and a fancy suit to help him fight evil-doers.

Ultimately, it's not Black Panther's fighting style that would win in a fight against Batman, it's his suit. Both men are equally suited to fight one another and while the Bat-Suit is certainly impressive, it isn't made out of Vibranium, which is capable of absorbing all kinetic energy. Every punch Bats would land would only empower T'Challa more. In the end, Bats wouldn't beat him and the Black Panther would stand supreme!
