Marvel movies (both made by Marvel or some other studio) feature characters that first appeared in comic books. If you know anything about comics, then you probably already know that they feature some crazy powerful characters. There is a constant power crawl, where heroes get stronger and new villains are introduced that are even stronger. Long story short, it can get pretty ridiculous with how strong some of these individuals become over the years. For the most part, transitioning to a live-action film will take a character and either dampen or re-work their powers for a new audience. After all, they haven't been fighting cosmic beings for the last three decades, so they don't need to have all the crazy powers that they do in the comics. It would make for a fairly uninteresting movie to see an overpowered character just having his fun with no stakes at all.

However, that hasn't stopped numerous writers and directors from taking characters in a Marvel Comics-based film and making them overpowered anyway. Sometimes, it can service the story, other times, it's only interjected to try and make the whole project seem "cooler" by comparison. Whatever the reason, there are some Marvel characters on the big screen that are made stronger than their comic book counterparts, or are practically indestructible. We're looking at some of the most enhanced and invincible heroes and villains as we discuss 20 Marvel characters that Hollywood made overpowered. Keep in mind, this is not excluded to movies produced by Marvel Studios.

19 BLACK WIDOW

For someone who doesn't have any superpowers, it's crazy just how powerful Black Widow is in the MCU. From her very first appearance in Iron Man 2, she's been seen taking on multiple people and doing all sorts of insane feats that wouldn't be possible for an average human. Granted, she does some crazy things in the comics, but the movies take it to a whole new level.

In The Avengers, she's shown doing acrobatics that we could believe for Captain America, but not someone like Black Widow. She can also take on Ultron robots and Chitauri aliens without missing a beat, despite them being stronger than average humans.

18 THOR

Thor was a character who was overpowered even in the first Thor movie. With the help of Mjolnir, he could just mow down any army that came his way and make it out safely. However, his power was significantly changed in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War. He's even stronger than he was back in his first film.

He can battle Thanos with a full Infinity Gauntlet and not immediately lose. The big difference with his overpowered nature now is that it feels much more earned as a part of a character arc that he went through. That said, the God of Thunder is still insanely powerful.

17 HULK

No, we're not talking about the 2003 Hulk. The Hulk we're referring to is the one in the MCU. While The Incredible Hulk hinted at his level of power, The Avengers went crazy with it. The Hulk could take on anyone that got in his way without fear of getting damaged in the process. Not only could he punch through any bad guys with ease, but he could also leap over tall buildings in a single bound.

He could climb up walls, get to the top of Stark Tower with one jump, and so much more. From there, he only gets stronger, being able to defeat Fenris wolf in Thor: Ragnarok, and even deal damage to Surtur.

16 BLADE

Blade is the kind of character that stares the end in the eye, spits in its face, and keeps on moving. The entire Blade trilogy features him going against all sorts of crazy vampires and supernatural creatures. He does often get a beating in the process, but he always pushes through it and wins every battle, seemingly unaffected by all of his injuries.

It gets even crazier when you to Blade: Trinity, as a vampire-ending virus was released into the world. You would think that it would end Blade, considering he is half-vampire. Instead, it just wipes out his vampire half, leaving his human half alive.

15 BLACK PANTHER

Black Panther was introduced in Captain America: Civil War and was one of the deadliest fighters in the MCU at the time. Complete with his vibranium suit, he could with stand bullets from a helicopter without even flinching. In Black Panther, he gets even stronger.

With the help of his brilliant sister, T'Challa is given a suit that can store and redistribute kinetic energy at will. There's almost no battle that he can't overcome. Even when he is faced with armies of Wakanda, the Black Panther just plows right through them, unaffected by all of the hits they try to land on him.

14 RONAN THE ACCUSER

Ronan the Accuser was the villain in Guardians of the Galaxy. Being a Kree fanatic and a herald of Thanos, the guy had a lot of power under his belt. However, he was so strong that he made Drax the Destroyer look like a mere child by comparison. He didn't even flinch when the two fought.

He gets even more overpowered when he is able to wield an Infinity Stone, and a shot from the Hadron Enforcer doesn't do anything to him. The only way that he was able to be defeated was when the Guardians of the Galaxy used the Power Stone to destroy him.

13 GHOST RIDER

Ghost Rider is a character that was never lacking in the power department. Being a spirit of vengeance permanently bound to hunting down those who are guilty and taking them out, he had an impressive repertoire of abilities that made him amazingly powerful. In the Ghost Rider films, he has a lot of those same abilities.

Every time he is the Ghost Rider, he defeats anyone that stands in his way. He can overcome any obstacle and then some. The only time he actually challenges his own skills is when he fights Blackheart in the final battle. Otherwise, he is practically invincible.

12 SCARLET WITCH

Scarlet Witch Elizabeth Olsen Civil War

Scarlet Witch is more powerful in the comics than in the MCU. Period. That said, she still has a lot of strength in the movies that makes her fairly overpowered. She started out being able to mess with minds and move objects in Avengers: Age of Ultron, to launching entire vehicles and overpowering nearly unbeatable aliens.

By the time we reach Avengers: Infinity War, she has enough power that she's able to hold back Thanos longer than almost any other Avenger on the team. She also shatters an Infinity Stone, something that no other character in the MCU has done.

11 GROOT

Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy

Groot is an alien of few words. That said, he has the biggest heart of anyone on the Guardians of the Galaxy. In the movies, though, there is almost no sense of danger for Groot, as he can fight just about anyone and still remain on top. When the prison robots were shooting, Groot took all of those bullets without losing a step.

On the Dark Aster, Groot fought through several Sakaarans at a time (and later several Outriders). In Avengers: Infinity War, his arm was strong enough to become the handle of the Stormbreaker axe, and he single-handedly saved Thor from death.

10 GREEN GOBLIN

Green Goblin Spider-Man

The Green Goblin we're referring to is the one shown in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movie. While Willem Defoe's Green Goblin wasn't the craziest character in that trilogy, he had a lot of tech that made him nearly unbeatable. First of all, his strength was enhanced thanks to the substance that he took, and his armor made him all but indestructible.

However, it was the pumpkin bombs that made him extremely overpowered. Those weapons, when detonated, can turn anyone near it into a pile of ash, melting the flesh off their bones in a matter of seconds. He could even hold an entire subway car filled with children.

9 ULTRON

The 8 Best MCU Iron Man Has Ever Done (And 7 Of The Worst)

Avengers: Age of Ultron brought one of the Avengers' most sadistic villains to the big screen. Ultron, in the film, was created by Tony Stark to protect the entire world, but he went crazy and tried to destroy it instead. Ultron's powers were insane.

He had lasers, magnetic abilities, could change his arm into other weapons, and imbue his consciousness in millions of other robots at a time. Having access to the internet, Ultron was nearly unstoppable at all angles. If it weren't for Vision finding a way to "shut him out," then Ultron would've been a constant threat for the Avengers.

8 THE VISION

The Vision was a synthetic body created for Ultron to inhabit and become all-powerful. When the being gained its own consciousness, it's no secret that it was also extremely powerful on its own. The Vision is an overpowered superhero. He can fly, change his density to pass through matter, and shoot a beam from the Mind Stone, and even alter his physical appearance.

That's also without mentioning his increased durability. When Iron Man gained the Vision's assistance in Captain America: Civil War, we all knew it was going to go poorly for Captain America and his non-powered team from there.

7 MAGNETO

Magneto (Michael Fassbender) in the X-Men films

Magneto is the main antagonist of the X-Men and a big character for FOX's X-Men films. He wasn't all that impressive in the first X-Men movie but, as time went on, he got increasingly powerful. In X-Men: Days of Future Past, he managed to lift and move an entire football stadium as well as control the Sentinels.

X-Men: The Last Stand saw him disconnecting the Golden Gate Bridge and moving it to a different spot. Then, there was X-Men: Apocalypse, where he complete decimated an entire city in a matter of seconds just because of a pep talk from Apocalypse.

6 EGO

Ego the Living Planet was the fascinating villain choice in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Against everything the comics had established, he was Peter Quill's father. On top of that, Ego was turned into a Celestial for the MCU, meaning that he had an insane level of power. He created an entire planet as well as tried to insert his life onto other planets.

His powers meant that he could achieve just about anything, even fight off all the Guardians of the Galaxy at once. The only reason he lost was because Quill was half Celestial as well and was able to tap into those powers himself.

5 HELA

Hela makes war on Asgard

Hela, in the MCU, was the older sister to Thor and firstborn of Odin. After Odin's passing, she was released from her imprisonment and went on a quest to take over Asgard at her "rightful" place on the throne. We'll be darned if she wasn't overpowered, though.

With no help, she slayed the entire Asgardian army and the Warriors Three without breaking a sweat. Later, when Thor, Hulk, Valkyrie, and Loki returned to fight her, she still came out on top (even with Thor's newfound electricity powers). The only way she was defeated was by Surtur rising again and destroying Asgard with her on it.

4 DEADPOOL

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool

Deadpool is a fairly new character for FOX, but they've leaned into him quite well. Being a character that was given the healing factor of Wolverine, Deadpool is as indestructible as you would expect. He can take all kinds of injuries, but they all heal in time.

This takes away any sort of tension with Deadpool in the films, as there isn't anything that can drop him. To be fair, that's not a knock against the movies, considering that the whole joke of the character is that he is invincible and can never pass away. As a result, he is extremely overpowered.

3 VALKYRIE

valkyrie

Valkyrie was a former Asgardian warrior, but after all of the other Valkyries were terminated by Hela, she left the planet and made a life for herself on Sakaar. In Thor: Ragnarok, Valkyrie would join Thor's team to go back to Asgard and slay the Goddess of Death.

As such, she is every bit as powerful as Thor on a physical level, but she uses a sword. She can jump great heights and cut through enemies with ease. She is confident and overpowered. She even defeats Loki in a one-on-one duel and binds him to use as a "peace offering" for Thor.

2 DORMAMMU

Doctor-Strange-vs-Dormammu

Dormammu was a surprise villain introduced in Doctor Strange. Fans of the comics know him as the fire demon from another realm who tries to take over the universe. In the MCU, he is the leader of the Dark Dimension and much more powerful. Knowing that he could never beat him in a magical duel, the only way that Doctor Strange defeats Dormammu is by outsmarting him and convincing him to leave Earth and never come back.

If Dormammu and Doctor Strange were going to fight, it would have to be much later, after Strange had become the Sorcerer Supreme.

1 SILVER SURFER

Silver-Surfer-2007

The Silver Surfer is an overpowered character, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer conveys it accurately. Being the herald of Galactus, the Silver Surfer can pass through objects, fly at insane speeds, and take any attack without flinching. Having the Power Cosmic, the Surfer also made quick work of Doctor Doom and gave the Fantastic Four a good run for their money.

What is most overpowered about the Surfer, though, was the fact that he was able to use his power to defeat Galactus. He might've permanently damaged himself in the process, but tackling a Celestial single-handedly is an impressive feat.
