Every comic book fan can appreciate the clash of two uniquely-powered heroes and/or villains. There's nothing quite like seeing the ways that two different character's powers interact with and adapt to those of the opposition. For certain pairings, the clash of their powers actually just cancel each other's out and result in a powerless fight.

Considering the massive arsenal of characters coming out of Marvel Comics, these pairings are actually more common than you might expect. With all those characters in mind, and covering the widest range of Marvel's heroes and villains, let's take a look at ten Marvel pairs whose powers cancel each other out.

10 Ms. Marvel and Mr. Fantastic

We'll start off with something pretty simple. When you think about it, two heroes with similar powers would essentially cancel each other out if they were to go toe-to-toe. Although there's plenty of examples of two characters with the same powers, why not start with the two stretchiest characters in all of Marvel?

Both Ms. Marvel and Mr. Fantastic possess extreme elasticity abilities, so if they were going up against one another neither would really have any advantage. Even though their powers technically wouldn't cancel out, they'd both be rendered basically powerless going up against someone with the same expertise about their own abilities.

9 Hope Summers and the Marvel Universe

Hope Summers using the Phoenix Force to fly away from the X-Men and Avengers

This one might be somewhat of a cop-out, but it still definitely applies. As an Omega-level mutant, Hope Summers is one of the most powerful beings in the entire Marvel Universe. Her list of abilities is essentially endless, and the real kicker is that she can even resist Rogue's touch, meaning her powers are nearly unstoppable.

She is also able to steal the powers of other characters if she is close enough to them. So, all in all, whenever anyone in the Marvel Universe goes up against Hope Summers, their powers are going to be completely useless as she can match them every time.

8 Luke Cage and The Punisher

It's somewhat difficult to include those with no actual superpowers on a list like this, but we're going to do it anyway. Regardless of his lack of given abilities, Frank Castle is a living arsenal and an expert marksman and fighter. However, when he's loaded up with countless weapons, what can he really do against someone that's bulletproof?

Luke Cage is beyond well-known for his impenetrable skin and super-human strength. Even though he seems like an impossible person to take down, his powers would only go so far against someone like the Punisher. It's tough to say who would emerge victorious out of a battle between these two, but it would be fascinating to see how they deal with the limitations of their abilities.

7 Bullseye and Hawkeye

Is there really a way to deal with someone who possesses the same ability as you? At that point, you need to think outside the box on how to take them down. That's certainly the case with two master marksman with precision aim.

It would be tough to see who would get the edge between Hawkeye and Bullseye, but it's safe to say that neither would be missing too many of their shots. But, considering their expert aim and knowledge of being a marksman, they might be able to avoid some of the other's shots. Once again, going up against someone with the expertise of your own ability has to be brutal.

6 Absorbing Man and Colossus

Most people believe that Colossus is essentially unbeatable on the account of him having metallic skin. However, there are a select few that can actually use that ability against him. The main person we're thinking of here Carl Creel, better known as Absorbing Man.

With the ability to mimic his skin to whatever material he touches, Creel would easily be able to develop a metallic exterior of his own. However, he'd still have to go up against Colossus in order to do that, which would put them on fairly even playing fields. At that point, both of their powers would be essentially pointless and it would come down simply to who's a better fighter.

5 Scarlet Witch and Captain Marvel

Who doesn't love a battle between two of the most powerful individuals in the entire universe? Considering the immense power of the opposer, one of them, if not both, wouldn't really be able to deliver the full effect of their powers.

Even though it's a fight we'd probably never see, Scarlet Witch and Captain Marvel would be one for the ages. The MCU has led us to believe that maybe Wanda Maximoff isn't as powerful as Carol Danvers, but that's not exactly true. Their exterior powers are actually wildly similar, so Captain Marvel doesn't really have the advantage that most seem to believe she does.

4 Spider-Man and Taskmaster

Lucky for us, we actually got a glimpse of this fight in the Spider-Man PS4 game. We're all more than aware of the skillset that Peter Parker possesses, but let's familiarize ourselves with what Taskmaster can do. He's a marksman and former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent with superhuman agility and "photographic reflexes".

That means that he can mimic the movement of whatever his opponent does. While Spider-Man doesn't have that exactly, he still has the enhanced reflexes of his spider-sense. So, when these two come face-to-face, it becomes a fight comprised of small victories, with both unable to utilize their true powers and trying to get the smallest intellectual gain on the other.

3 Wolverine and Deadpool

Ah, everyone's favorite Marvel couple. Well, that's at least how Deadpool sees it. Deadpool and Wolverine were both involved in experiments that gave them not just superhuman strength and durability, but also the ability to self-heal from practically any injury.

So, this one really boils down to the fact that neither can really kill the other with ease. With that in mind, there's not too much use to their other abilities and it slowly becomes a battle of who can outlast who.

2 Crystal and The Elementals

Here's one that most people probably rarely think about. Crystal is one of the less-popular Inhumans, whose abilities allow her to control and manipulate any of the four elements: earth, air, fire, and water. Now we all have some basic knowledge of the Elementals after their appearance in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

So, if in some strange reality, the Elementals and the inhuman Crystal found themselves in a fight, everything would just cancel itself out. Once Crystal began manipulating the nature of one of the elementals, another would attack and we'd find ourselves in one giant loop of elemental boredom.

1 Human Torch and Iceman

Finally, we've arrived at probably the most obvious part of the list. That is, what could be more obvious than fire vs ice in terms of canceling each other out? Well, just apply that to Marvel heroes and you find yourselves with a Human Torch vs Iceman battle.

Although we've only seen the two fight for the side of good, and even both as Fantastic Four members, it's still fun to speculate what a fight would be like between them. Would their fire and ice abilities just cancel out against the opposite element? It's too hard to say who gets the advantage here, but it's safe to say that both of their powers wouldn't be particularly effective against those of the other.
