In honor of the late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, Marvel Comics is adorning its weekly comic books with a commemorative trade dress.

The banner, which debuts on comics being released Sept. 23, reads "Rest In Power Chadwick Boseman: 1976 -- 2020" and features two Black Panther logos on either side. Marvel utilized a similar approach following the 2018 death of Marvel figurehead Stan Lee by including a banner across its titles for a full month, though it's unclear how long the Boseman tribute will run.

Boseman was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, the same year he made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War. However, the disease had slowly progressed to stage IV by the time of his passing on Aug. 28. According to the final Twitter post from his account, Boseman died at home with his wife and family present.

While Marvel Studios was unaware of Boseman's illness, Boseman himself was confident he'd overcome it. So much so that sources say he was planning to begin his prep work for Black Panther 2 in September, which would involve putting on the noticeable amount of muscle mass he'd lost since his 2018 solo film.

In addition to Black Panther 2, Boseman intended to reprise the role of T'Challa in Marvel's What If...? Disney+ animated series.
