Captain Carter is poised to introduce a Tony Stark that might be more iron than man.

Marvel Comics revealed a new cover for the third issue of the upcoming Captain Carter comic book series featuring the titular superhero alongside none other than Tony Stark. Unlike the iconic Marvel hero's typical appearance, however, this version of Tony Stark is sporting some serious sci-fi upgrades. While the most obvious of these is Tony's literal hand cannon, there may be far more than meets the eye when it comes to this latest iteration of Iron Man.

Fans of Captain Carter know the titular hero best from her introduction and subsequent appearances on Disney+'s What If...? In the new series, as the superpowered Peggy Carter struggles with becoming a woman out of time and devastating betrayals from within the ranks of her own organization, Tony Stark is set to enter the picture as an uncertain ally. Written by Jamie McKelvie of Captain Marvel and Young Avengers, fans can look forward to following the winding adventure accompanied by explosive action courtesy of Star Wars: Doctor Aphra artist Marika Cresta.

"I'm having a great time exploring what it would be like for Peggy to wake up nearly 80 years after the end of the war," McKelvie explained when Captain Carter's first story details broke. "The world remembers the myth of Captain Carter, but to Peggy the reality was just yesterday. Now she finds herself in a very unrecognizable new world, how does she fit in? Can she be the Super Hero people want her to be?"

Regarding the art and direction of the series, McKelvie remarked that "Exploring these questions has been really exciting, and I love the world Marika and I have come up with. I can't wait for people to see Marika's pages - there's so much life and energy to Peggy and the rest of the cast, and the action scenes are stunning."
