A timely addition to the superhero universe in 1941, Steve Rogers was introduced as World War 2 raged across the globe. Even nearly a hundred years since Hitler's defeat, Captain America has (mostly) remained a dedicated servant of truth and justice ~ even if his allegiance to his country has become increasingly tenuous.

With such an illustrious past, his many deeds have become the discussion for eager fans across the world, both in real life and in his universe. It's time to discuss what he has done which may have gone unappreciated ~ and what was overblown.

10 Overrated - Defeating The Red Skull

While Steve may have prevented the disastrous nuclear destruction the Red Skull had planned for the United States, he cannot claim direct responsibility for his victory. The final fight against Schmidt had the Captain on the ropes, and ultimately, it was the Skull himself who sealed his defeat.

Once he was thrust into the Tesseract by the Captain's shield, he clutched it, hoping to harness its power. Instead, it consumed him, presumably incinerating his body in the process (though it is later revealed merely to have transported him into space).

9 Underrated - Fighting Ultron

Captain America's fight against Ultron is criminally underrated, especially considering the latter was made of vibranium ~ the same substance constituting Steve's famous shield. The rogue AI's strength is not limited to his durability; he can also shoot explosive rockets from his hands at a moment's notice.

Rogers managing to fight him head on and alone is a remarkable feat, even though he temporarily lost his shield during the battle. Each punch he would take would be similar to being crushed by an intelligent hydraulic press, and yet he held his own regardless of his disadvantages.

8 Overrated - Preventing Infighting

One of the most memorable scenes in the first Avengers movie was Thor's clash with Iron Man. The midnight conflict over Loki's fate would leave the trickster god amused, only for Steve to intervene before things got too far.

While Rogers would have to defend against Thor's hammer slam, it was an attack anyone with slightly beyond peak human feats could endure. Much of his defensive capacity did not come from his body, but the vibranium shield that Thor had yet to understand at the time.

7 Underrated - Keeping Up With Black Panther

Under the wrongful impression that Bucky Barnes was responsible for the UN bombing, the Black Panther viciously chased the Winter Soldier through the city, with Captain America and many police officers in hot pursuit.

Black Panther had several vantages which made the Captain's feat more remarkable. His fully vibranium suit granted a huge boost to durability, enabling him to take risks Rogers couldn't even with his serum. Additionally, his sable suit was conducive to disappearing, especially in dark passageways and tunnels.

6 Overrated - The Battle Of Wakanda

Steve Rogers served as a strong warrior in the fight for Wakanda, imperative in getting Vision the time he needed to extract the Mind Stone. However, he was hardly the most useful; in fact, even Falcon was a greater asset.

He and Black Panther both shared issues in mobility. Giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming that every minion he punched once was permanently defeated, it still pales in comparison to someone like Bruce Banner, who is capable of stemming the invaders as quickly as they breached the barrier.

5 Underrated - Outsmarting Spider-Man

Amidst the chaos in the iconic airport fight of Captain America: Civil War, Steve came head to head with Tony Stark's latest prodigy, Spider-Man. While the two might be physical equals, Parker held a number of advantages which should have secured his victory.

He was dramatically more agile than Rogers, was able to restrict and bind his limbs through his webs, and was above all schooled in the Captain's weaknesses by Stark himself. However, through martial cunning and a prudent usage of his environment, Steve managed to pin Peter under debris which left him at his mercy.

4 Overrated - "Stopping" Thanos's Hand

With Thanos's impending victory, Captain America stood up to him for a final reckoning, one which emulates his spirit in the face of impossible odds. As noble as Steve's intention might have been, his actions were foolish and he was utterly humiliated as a result.

Thanos took Rogers out of commission without the gauntlet or any of its gems, instead using a single blow. Admirable as the Captain's intent might have been, his efforts would have been much better spent attempting an ambush or rallying the remaining heroes, instead of facing the man who out punched the Hulk head to head.

3 Underrated - Wielding Mjolnir

Captain America wielding Mjolnir was a monumental event which elated fans everywhere. Foreshadowing was built toward the epic reveal in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where Steve managed to budge the hammer at a party, much to Thor's surprise and anxiety.

It is symbolic to the Captain's growth as more than a warrior since his first movie, though as a person as well. Unfortunately, his triumph is often forgotten due to Thor's own achievements. Stormbreaker's awesome display of lightning and power was so stunning, it casts a shadow over Steve's progression.

2 Overrated - "Does Anyone Want To Get Out?"

In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Steve uncovers a Hydra plot to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D before being assailed by a handful of agents in an elevator. He's well aware of their intentions, politely asking if anyone wants to get out before the brawl started and therefore revealing his knowledge of their scheme.

As crunchy and entertaining as the violence that ensued may have been, it was hardly impressive. Captain America is a man who's capable of holding down a helicopter with a single hand. Against regular goons in a crowded space where they would have a hard time using firearms, they never stood a chance.

1 Underrated - Redeeming Bucky

While Captain America's valiant charges into battle or epic fistfights against Hydra's goons thrill audiences everywhere, his violence isn't what defines him as a character. His loyalty is, notably to his old friend, Bucky Barnes.

In the climax of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Steve comes face to face with Bucky on a crashing airship. He refuses to fight him, instead allowing Barnes to land blow after devastating blow until he is beaten to a pulp. This passive display of love and resistance is enough to break the Soldier's conditioning and put him on the long road to recovery.
