Marvel Comics has canceled Exiles, and the current volume of the reality-hopping series will end will January's issue #12, according to series writer Saladin Ahmed."Now some sad news: Exiles #12 will be the last issue of our run," said Ahmed. "It's not unexpected - this was a bizarre book that was always living on borrowed time. I'm just thankful [Javier Rodriguez] and I, with the rest of the crew, got to make something unique."RELATED: Exiles Reveals the Tragic Origin of Peggy Carter, Captain America

Ahmed also posted a follow-up tweet, in which he listed the characters he is "proud to say canonically exist in the Marvel multiverse now because of our Exiles run." Those characters include Khan (Old Lady Ms. Marvel); Valkyrie, the lone defender of Asgard; Sam Wilson, the Scarlet Falcon; and Mercedes Knight, captain of the Misty.

Starting in 2001, the first volume of Exiles ran for 100 issues and lasted for the better part of a decade. The Exiles subsequent adventures had significantly shorter runs. When the current volume debuted earlier this year, it made headlines for introducing a Tessa Thompson-esque Valkyrie in the wake of Thor: Ragnarok's success. Besides Valkyrie, Khan and Exiles mainstay Blink, the series' core team also included a Peggy Carter Captain America and a cartoonish Wolverine called Wolvie.
