This week's issue of Doctor Strange: Surgeon Supreme will be the last of this current volume. The final page of Doctor Strange #6 revealed Marvel has canceled the title, though the publisher promises his adventures are far from over.
"This arc of Dr. Strange may be coming to a close, but fear not, the Sorcerer Supreme's adventures are far from over," a message from writer Mark Waid reads. "And as Doctor Strange embarks on his next chapter, we want to say thank you to everyone who joined us on this journey."
Waid went on to compare Doctor Strange to heroes like Iron Man, Spider-Man, Mister Fantastic, Hulk, Ant-Man and Hawkeye. All of these superheroes were born from a unique combination of trauma and arrogance, except what makes Doctor Strange different is he never fully shook his arrogance. "The trick of writing Dr. Strange is to keep him balanced on that fine line between pretentious and likable while occasionally allowing him to fall victim to his own smugness," Waid wrote. "It's joyous to write a character who is his own worst enemy, and I will miss the time that we have had together."
The writer then thanked the artists and editors who collaborated on Doctor Strange, including Daniel Acuña, Javier Pina, Jesús Saiz, Barry Kitson, Kevin Nowlan, Butch Guice, Kev Walker, Nick Lowe, Darren Shan, Kathleen Wisneski, Annalise Bissa, Danny Khazem and Lauren Amaro. Artist Kev Walker also left a note, saying, "Thank you for the opportunity."
