Black Panther, which was based on the comics of the same name, marked the first film with a black lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film starred the late Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa, the newly appointed King of the nation of Wakanda. After being challenged by his cousin N'Jadaka, played by Micheal B. Jordan, the new king is forced to reevaluate his nation's isolationism and whether they should share their technological advancements with the world.

Dreams of Wakanda is a deep dive into the film and includes discussions about the art, writing, and soundtrack that brought Wakanda to life. Featuring commentary from costume designer Ruth E. Carter, writer Tre Johnson, author Yona Harvey and many more, the book provides an insight into the film's creation.

Wakanda's fashion was one of the biggest highlights of the film, and the book takes an in-depth look into just how important the costuming was to the making of Black Panther. Carter and her team did extensive research to bring in influence from every tribal faction on the African continent. From African kente cloth to hats borrowing their shape from the Zulu, the creative team worked hard to ensure the costumes in the film represented a significant portion of cultures that were previously unexplored in Marvel films.

Black Panther: Dreams of Wakanda Has a Worthy Cause

Disney has partnered with Penguin Random House for Dreams of Wakanda's release. The companies have organized an event for the book launch and intend on donating part of the proceeds to two charitable organizations: First Books and Books for Africa.

While Disney will be donating $ 1 million to First Book, Penguin will be making a donation of approximately $100,000 to Books for Africa. First Books is a nonprofit organization that works to aid underserved communities and close the gap in basic needs and educational equity. Books for Africa was founded to "end the book famine in Africa".
