Marvel's Avengers will soon see the return of Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. who has been missing in action since the game launched.

Revealed in an official blog post, developer Crystal Dynamics explains what players can expect from Marvel's Avengers in the future. While a formal roadmap is still being finalized, fans can look forward to a wealth of new features, including Nick Fury returning to active duty. While Marvel's very own super spy will join Director Hill in coordinating all future Avengers missions, it's currently unknown how this will impact the game's narrative. It's also unlikely that Fury will join Avengers' roster of playable heroes.

The developer also explains that the core mechanics of Marvel's Avengers need to change and adapt based on how gamers play. While some mechanics have been reworked, Crystal Dynamics promises larger, more sweeping changes. The War Table and mission-select systems will be overhauled to improve the flow for new and old players alike, with the end goal of making leveling characters less frustrating.

Marvel's Avengers will also be tweaking how gear perks work in the game. Crystal Dynamics notes that it wants to establish more viable builds while making loot "earnable through a wider set of play activities to give you more options to hunt for the perfect build in your own way."

"We’ve loved our adventures together, and we’re excited to show and share with you the adventures we have planned for new ways to fight, new Heroes to fight with, new challenges to face and how we plan to continue expanding Marvel’s Avengers. Thanks for playing with us!" concludes Crystal Dynamics.

While fans of the live-service superhero brawler will undoubtedly be pleased to know that major updates are on the horizon, many are still concerned with the state of the game as it currently stands. Marvel's Avengers has a history of bugs and glitches, a problem that was exacerbated with the release of the Klaw Raid. While the mission is more stable than when it was first released, some players are hoping that the upcoming updates won't cause similar problems.

Gamers looking to save the world alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes can find Marvel's Avengers on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
