Marvel Avengers Academy Game to Shut Down At End of Year

The popular mobile game Marvel Avengers Academy will be leaving iOS and Android devices for good.

As revealed by an in-game announcement from developer TinyCo, the title will be removed from the App Store, Google Play and Amazon by the end of the month for new users and shut down entirely on February 4 for current players. The mobile game will close on the third anniversary of its launch date: February 4, 2016.

Featuring younger incarnations of the iconic Marvel superheroes who attend the same academic institution, the game had players design and build their own academies to train students to better use their super powers and defend the world.

The announcement comes following reports yesterday that the popular mobile game Spider-Man Unlimited would also be shut down in March. While no reason was given for Avengers Academy's shutdown, its parent company Jam City has been quietly laying off employees since the start of the month.

Marvel Avengers Academy is developed by TinyCo. It will be available on all iOS, Android and Amazon devices until the end of the month.
