A newly released piece of concept art for 2019's Avengers: Endgame shows Clint Barton/Hawkeye wearing a high-tech suit that didn't appear in the movie.

Posted to Instagram by Marvel Studios' Director of Visual Development Andy Park, the image shows a potential look for Hawkeye from before the choice to go with Ronin was finalized. Park mentions that the costume is the counterpart to Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow's look in Endgame.

While Hawkeye didn't appear in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, the start of Endgame revealed that he'd been with his family during that movie. However, all of them were turned to dust after Thanos gathered the Infinity Stones and used them to snap away half the population of the universe. In response, Barton became Ronin, a significantly more violent and ruthless vigilante. Barton went on to play a key role in helping the Avengers to undo Thanos's snap.

Created by Stan Lee and Don Heck, Clint Barton/Hawkeye first appeared in 1964's Tales of Suspense #57 as a villainous master archer. Eventually, Hawkeye went on to become a member of the Avengers and a key hero in the comics. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Hurt Locker actor Jeremy Renner plays Hawkeye, having first appeared in the role in 2011's Thor.

While Barton has never gotten his own solo film, he's sharing the stage with Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) in the ongoing Hawkeye series on Disney+. Set after the events of Endgame, Barton and Bishop team up to take on some of the enemies he made during his time as Ronin, finding themselves at odds with the Tracksuit Mafia and several other formidable foes. Early response to the series has been positive, with Hawkeye currently holding a 93 percent critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

At this time, it's unknown when Renner will next reprise his role as Hawkeye after the end of the Disney+ series. Following the departure of Steve Rogers/Captain America and Tony Stark/Iron Man from the MCU, Marvel Studios has seemingly been building up a new generation of heroes. Several key Young Avengers members -- including Bishop -- have been introduced in recent projects or are set to play roles at some point in the future.

New episodes of Hawkeye air Wednesdays on Disney+. Avengers: Endgame is also available on the streaming service.
