Marvel Comics has made two new “Civil War II”-related one-shots official — but they’re not giving away any more details, beyond the titles and release month. “Civil War II: The Fallen” and “Civil War II: The Accused” are both scheduled for release in August, but the covers, creative team and content are strictly “classified” for the time being — don’t take our word for it, check out the images Marvel just sent:
So while there’s not a lot to go on there, the titles “The Fallen” and “The Accused” certainly feel natural given what’s been revealed about “Civil War II” so far. In the solicitation text for July’s “Civil War II” #3, it’s said that “One of the biggest heroes in the Marvel Universe will fall” — presumably account for, and this is some next-level detective work, “The Fallen.” Then in the solicitation text for “Civil War II” #4, out that same month, it’s said, “Sides are harshly divided as the Marvel Universe’s trial of the century reaches its shocking verdict!” — which, seemingly, fits right in with “The Accused.”
Also, “The Fallen” makes for something of a callback to Marvel’s 2006-2007 original “Civil War” event, which was followed by a miniseries titled “Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America,” which detailed the aftermath of Captain America’s temporary demise. Either way, it looks like the speculation were persist for another couple of months, as Marvel has promised more information on July 6.
“Civil War II” begins with a prelude out this Saturday as part of Free Comic Book Day, from writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Jim Cheung. Then “Civil War II” #0, from Bendis and Olivier Coipel, follows on May 18; before “Civil War II” #1 from Bendis and David Marquez hits two weeks later on June 1.
