In an unprecedented move, Marvel Comics today announced that it's testing the waters of same day release for its comics in stores and online with a simultaneous Direct Market and iPad release for the "Invincible Iron Man Annual" #1. Written by regular series scribe Matt Fraction with art by Carmine Di Giandomenico, the book with run 80 pages and hit on June 30.

While the print edition of the book will retail for $4.99, Marvel's official press release (posted below) did not say what the price of the comic would be on the iPad (the standard price for a 22-page comic on the device is $1.99). That price point -and the entire program - will doubtlessly be watched after by many brick and mortar comic book retailers, just as the experiment will likely serve as a barometer by which Marvel will gauge whether or not more comics (or even all their comics) will see a simultaneous release.
