10 Brimstone Love

Far too often there are powerful mutants in the pages of Marvel Comics who become devastating foes for the X-Men to face. That is no different for the heroes of the Marvel 2099 universe. One such foe the X-Men 2099 have to face is Brimstone Love, a psychotic mutant who revels in pain.

Creating the Theatre Of Pain to use people’s pain and suffering for “art”, he begins using a mutant woman whom he forces to use her powers to bring people’s suffering and memories to the forefront named La Lunatica to attack the X-Men 2099 to add to his collection.

9 Flipside

One of the more unique foes that the heroes of the Marvel 2099 universe have had to face is Flipside. He is unique in that he is an android created long ago to mimic the powers of the first superhero he encounters. Created and stored in the Heroic Age, he was found by a gang led by Packrat, but the android was broken.

The first hero he encounters upon being awoken is Spider-Man 2099, but unable to identify him, he adopts both Spider-Man and Venom’s power sets, becoming a psychotic Spider-Man like villain with an obsession with befriending Spider-Man 2099 himself.

8 Multi-Fractor

Otherwise known as the future version of Jigsaw, Multi-Fractor is a cyborg and the under-capo of a crime syndicate at the time known as the Cyber-Nostra, Multi-Fractor is the first to encounter and later report to Fearmaster, the gang’s leader, of the Punisher of the year 2099.

After his initial battle with the Punisher ends with his demise, he is awoken by a mortician and veterinarian who has made him into a Frankenstein-esque monster called Jigsaw out of machine and animal body parts. He rejoins Fearmaster and begins a long-standing battle with the Punisher.

7 Electro 2099

Many villains of the Heroic Age and modern-day Marvel Comics have seen future versions of either themselves directly or their mantle surviving into the future such as Marvel 2099. One hero who survived into that future was Electro, who returned to the public eye in the form of an android.

A former robot construction worker, his creators become dissatisfied with his work and sent him to torture experimenters. This shorted out his obedience chip however, gaining him sentience and harnessing electrical energy to give him Electro style power, which led to him joining the new version of the Sinister Six.

6 Vulture 2099

One thing that makes a really terrifying villain in a comic book is having an unknown history alongside a disturbing trait. Marvel 2099 brought this aspect of a villain to life in Vulture 2099, an unknown and mysterious man who developed a taste for human flesh, becoming a cannibal.

Later in Nueva York, after gaining the alias of the Vulture, the villain found a flight suit similar to the original Vultures and saved Spider-Man’s life from Public Eye patrols in the city. However when his cannibal nature was revealed, the two battled and Spider-Man won, creating a villainous rivalry.

5 Goblin

Just as the Batman has always had a Joker to face, so too has Spider-Man always had a Goblin to face. Whether it’s been the Green Goblin or Hobgoblin, Spider-Man has always been facing this particular villain. This translated into the pages of Marvel 2099 as well, when Miguel O’Hara faced Goblin 2099.

Otherwise known as Jennifer D’Angelo, an ordained priest and the sister of Miguel O’Hara’s fiancee Dana D’Angelo, Goblin never met Miguel as “Miguel” as she fell out with her sister long before Dana’s demise. She became the Goblin, intent on becoming the Downtown’s protector of the people instead of Spider-Man and teaming up with Vulture to defeat him.

4 Technarchy

One of the more complex foes any hero has to face in any time has to be alien invaders. In Marvel 2099, one alien race the heroes have to face is the Technarchy, a group of cybernetic shape-shifting aliens who are giant techno-organic entities with a tendency towards violence.

While they were created by the Phalanx, their aggressive nature has led them to hate their creators, who believe them not to be creators but an off-shoot of their own race and abominations in general. They travel the universe in search of food, usually by infecting organic beings with the techno-organic virus.

3 Tyler Stone

One of the more iconic foes for any longtime fan of Spider-Man 2099 has to be Tyler Stone. The head of Alchemex and the former mentor of Miguel O’Hara, he controls one of the largest corporate powerhouses in the world in 2099. After learning of testing on humans, Miguel grows concerned, which Tyler then uses as an excuse to get Miguel hooked on Rapture.

Refusing to be blackmailed, Miguel experiments on himself and becomes Spider-Man 2099, ending his addiction. His own son Kron Stone becomes a ruthless villain himself, showcasing a long line of villainy in the family.

2 Thanatos

Sometimes the most powerful or disturbing villains are alternate versions of the heroes fans have come to know and love. One such hero that the heroes of the Marvel 2099 universe have had to face is Rick Jones, aka Thanatos. In this universe, Thanatos is an alternate reality version of Rick Jones who stayed with the Kree Supreme Intelligence after the Kree-Skrull War.

Wanting to merge the various versions of Rick Jones into the Ultimate Rick Jones, he traveled to worlds like Marvel 2099 to hunt down other Rick Jones, but present-day Rick Jones and the Rick Jones of Future Imperfect defeated him.

1 Venom

Venom 2099 is Kron Stone, the son of Tyler Stone and later revealed to be the older half-brother of Miguel O’Hara, who is actually Tyler Stone’s son as well. Kron was violent after years of suffering at the hands of an android housekeeper and later was responsible for taking the lives of the Gallows family, the family of Punisher 2099 hero Jake Gallows.

After nearly losing his life to the Punisher, Kron drifted in the sewer into a black ball, which was the now mutated Venom symbiote. Bonding to Kron, the new Venom now had acidic blood and saliva. He sought to mentally torture Miguel, even ending Miguel’s fiancee Dana’s life.
