The world of Marvel Comics has been through a lot of amazing history. With a myriad of different iterations and universes of the world within the pages of the many "marvelous" series, it's to be expected that some of these versions will stick out more than others.
One of those versions that sticks out in the minds of many and remains highly loved to this day is that of Marvel 2099. In this possible future of Marvel, many legacy versions of Marvel characters take on new designs of classic heroes and villains. While some are great, others don't really hit the mark.
10 Great: Spider-Man 2099 Is Easily One Of The Best
When it comes to the designs of the 2099 series, most fans of Marvel Comics will think of Spider-Man 2099 before literally anyone else. This is due to just how perfect this comic run by Peter David is.
Spider-Man 2099's outfit is literally one of the best executed of the bunch, being simple yet intricate and even giving a nod to the Latino heritage of the man behind the mask, Miguel O'Hara.
9 Fails: Venom 2099 Is A Bit Too Much
On the opposite side of the great outfits, there is the Venom of the future era, Venom 2099, whose outfit isn't completely trash but leaves a bit to be desired.
This version of the classic symbiote-infused rival to Spider-Man looks a ton edgier and would fit more in a Spawn comic. He isn't horrid, but his '90s "edge" shows big time.
8 Great: Doom 2099's Original Look Is Amazing
Another Marvel 2099 hero whose new design stands out very well is Victor Von Doom, which isn't really too different than that of his past outfit.
Yes, Doom 2099 is actually just the original Doctor Doom who made sure that he wouldn't be left in the past. This is shown in his first future outfit's similarity to his original.
7 Fails: Punisher 2099 Is So '90s It Hurts
There isn't a soul on Earth that's a fan of comics and doesn't associate the classic edge of Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, with the edge-filled '90s era comics.
This edge was carried into the 2099 version of The Punisher and pushed up to the next level. He's just one of those characters with way too much going on in the outfit.
6 Great: Moon Knight 2099 Is A Good Take On A Classic Look
In 2099 there is another Moon Knight that not only fought against the "Anti-Powers Act," but wields a Soulsword similar to that of Illyana "Magik" Rasputin.
This Moon Knight is a female and definitely has one of the best redesigned classic costumes of the lot of new legacy heroes within the Marvel 2099 pages.
5 Fails: Hulk 2099 Is A Punk Rock Monstrosity
The Hulk of 2099 has one of the best backstories of all, being a researcher of a cult based around the original Hulk, Bruce Banner, that ends up in the same shoes as that Hulk.
The same can't be said for his look, sadly. He doesn't look horrible at times, embracing a more monstrous look than the original, but in some panels he just looks like a green punk rocker.
4 Great: Captain America 2099 Doesn't Stray Too Far
Roberta Mendez was forcefully given the Super-Soldier Serum by her husband, an operative for the evil organization and business company, Alchemax.
This led her to become the leader of Alchemax's manufactured "Avengers", equipped with a great costume in the same vein as the original. Admittedly, she looks a bit goofy in some panels— but then, doesn't Steve Rogers?
3 Great: Electro 2099 Is Just Awesome
While there are some updated character designs of the '90s that are a bad type of edgy, there are others that just look badass, then and now. Though, in Electro 2099's case, that's probably because he's newer.
2099 Electro's look is clearly inspired by the fact that he is pure power himself, adapting a more translucent look that shows his skull and clearly tells what his power is.
2 Fails: Doctor Octopus 2099 Having Actual Octopus Tentacles Doesn't Quite Work
On the other side of the table is Doctor Octopus 2099 which is another outfit that sort of works but can look a bit too off to certain readers of the series, as do many experimental looks of characters in the '90s.
In the world of 2099, Doctor Octopus is a literal octopus. An Atlantean scientist that joins the 2099 Sinister Six and fights against Spider-Man. He also is the killer of one of Spider-Man 2099's ally, Jennifer D'Angelo, the Goblin of the era.
1 Great: Doom 2099's Second Look Is Just As Good As The First
Doctor Doom is one of the characters, along with Spider-Man 2099, that received multiple updated looks due to the characters themselves upgrading their wardrobes.
Doom's second costume truly shows his might, with all clean silver armor, a new red cape, and glowing energy coming from his eyes to boot. This is one that many fans quickly grew fond of, even making an appearance in the game Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
