Mark Wahlberg Targets 2 Guns

Mark Wahlberg is negotiating to star in Universal Pictures’ 2 Guns, an adaptation of the BOOM! Studios miniseries initially planned as a vehicle for Vince Vaughn, Deadline reports. David O. Russell signed on in January to rewrite and direct the film, but Heat Vision contends he left the project because of scheduling difference.

Written by Steven Grant and illustrated by Mataes Santolouco, the 2007 miniseries follows a DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer who, unwittingly investigating each other, team up to steal money from the mob. Unfortunately they learn too late that the $50 million actually belongs to the CIA. Universal acquired the rights to the comic in Aug. 28.

Wahlberg, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in The Departed, starred opposite Christian Bale in The Fighter, directed by Russell. He’s now filming Seth McFarlane’s comedy Ted with Mila Kunis.

Marc Platt is producing 2 Guns with BOOM! co-founders Andrew Cosby and Ross Richie. Blake Masters penned the script.
