Avengers: Endgame actor Mark Ruffalo wants to see a standalone Hulk film pair him up with Wolverine—and not for the first time.

Speaking to Variety, Ruffalo said he would love to see a solo Hulk film flesh out the backstory of his character and pit him against Wolverine. Now that Disney has the character rights for Wolverine and the X-Men, Ruffalo thinks the time is right: “Maybe Hulk and Wolverine could hook up.”

Speaking about his role, Ruffalo said, “We’ve never really followed him into his life. He’s always kind of off on the side. He’s like the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern of the Avengers. It’d be interesting to fill in all the blanks about what happened to him in between all these movies.”

Wolverine debuted in 1974's Incredible Hulk #181 where he was pitted against the Jade Giant. These events were retold in the 2009 animated film Hulk Vs. Wolverine. Marvel has not yet cast a new Wolverine, as Hugh Jackman retired from the role.

According to Ruffalo, there is currently no plan to develop a Hulk solo movie, most likely due to Universal owning the film distribution rights for the character. But Marvel is working on a She-Hulk series for Disney+, and it seems like a Hulk appearance is on the table.
