Millar Wants Thor: Ragnarok's Thompson To Play New Kick-Ass

Mark Millar knows who should play the next Kick-Ass, and the answer shouldn’t come as a surprise. According to a recent Twitter post, the comic book writer wants Thor: Ragnarok’s Tessa Thompson to play the titular ground-level superhero onscreen.

Millar’s choice may come as a surprise to fans of the Kick-Ass film series, which has seen two entries so far. But, considering the events of the comics, Thompson seems like a natural fit. While Kick-Ass’ onscreen incarnation has been played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the first four volumes of the comics wrapped up his arc nicely.

Last year, Millar announced that the new Kick-Ass would be black, a woman and a military veteran. Thompson has already cemented her action movie chops in Thor: Ragnarok, and her performance in 2015’s Creed proved she can shine in a more dramatic setting.

It’s unclear how Thompson would fit into the film series’ ongoing story, but a reboot is always an option. The Kick-Ass 2 movie ended with Dave Lizewski (the current Kick-Ass) feeling a renewed sense of purpose in his altruistic struggle against evil, and even teased some major armor upgrades. Kick-Ass 2 was released in 2013. A Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl team-up movie was rumored in 2017, but nothing has come of it yet.
