Mark Millar shared a sneak preview via his newsletter at the second volume of The Magic Order, due for release in October.

Continuing the saga of an order of wizards who protect the greater world from magical threats, The Magic Order 2 highlights the London chapter of the titular organization, and features Victor Korne, who Millar described as "the descendent of a black wizard who rules half the Earth 500 years ago." He wrote, "Now this guy's working in a bottle factory and he's tired of being kept down... He wants to assemble all the old forces and return the world to the way it was."

The Magic Order's first series, written by Millar and illustrated by Olivier Coipel, ran for six issues in 2018 and was the first comic book released by Millar's creator-owned company, Millarworld, after its acquisition by Netflix in 2017. In a 2018 interview with CBR, Millar called the series a cross between the magic of Harry Potter, the crime family violence of The Sopranos, and the dramatic pathos of King Lear. He pointed out that it was perfect for anyone who enjoyed the fantasy genre growing up and now wanted "something that appeals to their adult sensibilities."

"Volume 1, as you know, introduced us to the Moonstone family and their unique job of secretly keeping the world safe after dark," Millar wrote in his newsletter. "By day they work in bars or building sites or drive buses and taxis. By night they take their wands out and keep us safe in our beds. I always liked the idea that all the old myths and legends were true, that those Ray Harryhausen films really happened, but this circle was formed 500 years ago and they keep the monsters at bay, making sure we never see a ghost in our very sensible and secular lives."

The first volume of The Magic Order was a hit, with its sales numbers exceeding those on Millar's Jupiter Legacy, which made its live-action Netflix debut in May. Five volumes detailing the saga of the Moonstone family are ultimately planned, along with an upcoming Netflix series. The series was rumored to have been cancelled in 2020 but still remains a major priority, according to Millar, who wrote that "we're beavering away on the TV show at the moment, doing our best to get it perfect."

Issue #1 of The Magic Order 2, written by Millar with pencils by Stuart Immonen and cover variants by Greg Tocchini and Ozgur Yildirim, goes on sale Oct. 27.
