Mark Hamill's fan-favorite character Luke Skywalker has been a central figure in the original Star Wars trilogy, as well as Disney's sequel trilogy. The character made a brief appearance at the end of J.J. Abrams' The Force Awakens, he later had a big role to play in Rian Johnson's  The Last Jedi. Plus, and he's also poised to return in the upcoming The Rise of Skywalker.Now, the actor has confirmed what many have already speculated, which is that the J.J. Abrams-directed Episode IX will be his final film in the franchise. When asked by a fan on Twitter to describe the upcoming film in three words, Hamill answered with a definitive "My final episode."

Luke Skywalker heroically died at the end of The Last Jedi after using the Force to project himself across the galaxy in an effort to save the Resistance. While most fans believe the character will appear as a Force ghost, the exact details of his return remain a secret.
