Genre icon Mark Hamill is responsible for the return of the beloved comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine -- at least, according to series star Terry Crews, who plays Sgt. Terry Jeffords on the show.
Last week, the five-season FOX comedy series was cancelled by the network, which spurred an outpouring of support from fans who demanded the show be picked up by another network or streaming service. One of those fans was Star Wars legend and Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill.
Following the series' cancellation on Thursday, Hamill posted the following to Twitter:
Oh NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! 😩😭😫😢 I'm SO not ready to say #ByeBye99. Be forewarned @FOXTV-when networks dump shows I love, I'm known for holding grudges a long, L-O-N-G time. I'm still mad @CBS didn't renew #SquarePegs! 😡#EverythingILikeGetsCancelled https://t.co/NEry6Hrpng— Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) May 10, 2018
Sure enough -- only one day later -- NBC decidedly picked up Brooklyn Nine-Nine for a thirteen-episode sixth season. Crews, of course thrilled by this news, went on to personally thank Hamill via Twitter, crediting the actor for using the might of The Force to bring back the fan-favorite comedy series.
@HamillHimself I want to personally THANK YOU Mark for using the power of the force to save Brooklyn Nine Nine! *Wipes dirt off shoulder*— terrycrews (@terrycrews) May 12, 2018
Created in 2013 by Dan Goor and Parks and Recreation‘s Michael Schur, Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Stephanie Beatriz, Chelsea Peretti, Joe Lo Truglio, Terry Crews, Dirk Blocker, and Joel McKinnon Miller.
