Mark Hamill has boarded The Machine alongside Bert Kreischer, which is based on the stand-up's comedy special of the same name.

The Hollywood Reporter announced that Hamill has boarded the film, which has been in development since 2019. In the movie, Hamill will play Kreischer's father as the two get sucked back into the world of the infamous comedy routine. Peter Atencio, who's known for directing Keanu, Key & Peele, Jean Claude Van Johnson and episodes of the new Twilight Zone, will helm the project.

Hamill tweeted out a short video teasing the project, joking, "I think I might already regret this," in the tweet based on a last-minute cameo from Kreischer.

The Machine is based on a joke from the eponymous stand-up special Kreischer released in 2016. The routine became a viral hit when the segment was released on social media and YouTube, where it currently has 37 million views. It tells the story of the comedian during his seventh year at Florida State University in Tallahassee, where he majored in Russian. His connection to members of the Russian mob and prolific drinking skills, which earned him the nickname "The Machine," eventually got him entangled in a train robbery during a school trip to Russia. Check out the story below:

The movie will follow Kreischer's character and his father 20 years after the events of the story when they're kidnapped by the people involved. It's described as a cross between Midnight Run and The Hangover. Kreischer will produce alongside his manager, Judi Marmel.

Kreischer hasn't done much acting work, having popped up on The Shield and The Loud House over the years, so The Machine will be his biggest project yet. As for Hamill, the famed Star Wars actor can currently be heard voicing Art on Amazon's Invincible. He's also currently in pre-production on Netflix's animated He-Man project Masters of the Universe: Revelation, on which he'll voice Skeletor. Hamill also recently backed Logan director James Mangold's Georgia filming boycott after the state passed SB 202, which will severely restrict voting rights. He joins numerous other actors and creatives who are protesting the state's rollback of voter's rights.

The Machine does not yet have a release date. The stand-up special, Burt Kreischer: The Machine, is streaming now on Netflix.
