The quest to make a watchable video game film took a classy turn today as New Regency And Ubisoft added Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard to Assassin's Creed.

Deadline has the news that the Dark Knight Rises star will join Michael Fassbender in the adaptation of the time-hoping action game. The film will be directed by Justin Kurzel who directed both actors in the soon to be release Weinstein Company's soon-to-be-released Macbeth.

Cotillard's part remains a mystery, though the game franchise does have at least one female protagonist in Assassin's Creed III: Liberation's Aveline de Grandpré. The movie is set for a Dec. 21, 2016 release from 20th Century Fox and features a screenplay by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper and Michael Lesslie.
