Margot Robbie is more than happy to star in a live-action romance between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy and officially bring the 'Harlivy' romance to the DC Universe.

Speaking with ComicBook, the Birds of Prey star shared that she’s been desperate for 'Harlivy' for years. "I cannot tell you how hard I've been pushing for that. I want it too," Robbie said. When asked if she had an actress in mind who could take on the role of Poison Ivy, Robbie explained that she’s never pictured an actress playing the role opposite her but instead only envisions Poison Ivy from the comics. However, she agrees that having a live-action romance would be "so good." Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn have a celebrated romance both in the comics and the Harley Quinn animated series which many fans now want to be translated for the big screen.

Robbie has played the iconic character of Harley Quinn in three films so far: DC's Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad. While there have been no reports about the star reprising her role, the actress has shared her willingness to return to her character whenever the time comes. In the meantime, Lady Gaga has officially been confirmed to star as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie A Deux opposite Joaquin Phoenix which will serve as a sequel to Todd Philliphs’ 2019 psychological thriller film Joker. Since the film isn’t a part of the DCU, Gaga isn’t technically replacing Robbie.

An All-New Harley Quinn

Speaking about Gaga’s portrayal of Harley Quinn in the upcoming film, Robbie explained that she was "so happy" about the new development. "I said from the very beginning that all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way Macbeth or Batman, always gets passed from great actor to great actor," Robbie continued. She also highlighted that while many male actors get to take on the aforementioned legendary roles, there aren’t a lot of female characters that get the same opportunity. "It's such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing. And I think she'll do something incredible with it," Robbie added.

The actress has been busy promoting her new film Babylon, directed by Damien Chazelle. The epic period film revolves around the rise and fall of several imminent figures in Hollywood's transition from silent films to "talkies" in the late 1920s. Robbie plays the role of Nellie LaRoy alongside an ensemble cast that includes Brad Pitt, Diego Calva, Jean Smart, Jovan Adepo, and Li Jun Li.
