Margot Robbie has some discouraging news for those who enjoyed her DC Extended Universe movie Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

“I don’t know if that is on the horizon anytime soon,” Robbie told Den of Geek, when asked about the possibility of a Birds of Prey sequel. “I don’t think it’s a no. But no, there’s no sequel in the works that I’m aware of at this stage.”

Directed by Cathy Yan, Birds of Prey followed Robbie's Harley Quinn on an adventure that pit her against the sadistic Gotham City crime lord Roman Sionis/Black Mask and ultimately saw her join forces with Dinah Lance/Black Canary, Helena Bertinelli/Huntress, and Gotham Detective Renee Montoya to form their own girl gang and save a young thief named Cassandra Cain. While the film earned positive reviews upon its theatrical release in Feb. 2020, it fell short of matching the DCEU's previous success at the box office, grossing $201.8 million on an estimated budget of $82-100 million.

Despite the unlikeliness of a Birds of Prey sequel, Robbie remains committed to bring more of DC's beloved antiheroines into the DCEU, including Harley's best friend and/or love interest Poison Ivy. In a previous interview, Robbie admitted "I chew [Warner Bros.'] ear off about it all the time. They must be sick of hearing it, but I'm like, 'Poison Ivy, Poison Ivy. Come on, let's do it. I'm very keen to see a Harley-Poison Ivy relationship on screen. It'd be so fun. So I'll keep pestering them," she added.

In the meantime, Robbie will reprise her role as Harley in The Suicide Squad, reuniting her with a handful of her costars from 2016's Suicide Squad. The film's writer/director James Gunn has even hinted he and Robbie could reunite for an unknown DCEU project featuring Harley after that. "Margot and I discussed this just the other day," Gunn said, responding to one of his Instagram followers earlier this year. "We will have to see what happens!"

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Alice Braga, Pete Davidson, Joaquín Cosio, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Nathan Fillion, Steve Agee, Sean Gunn, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Jennifer Holland and Tinashe Kajese, with Sylvester Stallone and Viola Davis. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max Aug. 6, 2021.
