After an investigation, the cause of Superman actress Margot Kidder's death has been ruled a suicide.

In a statement, Park County, Montana coroner Richard Wood said Kidder "died as a result of a self-inflicted drug and alcohol overdose."

This contradicts an earlier report by the actress' manager, Camilla Fluxman Pines, who said Kidder "died peacefully in her sleep." A friend discovered Kidder's body at her home on May 13th.

Despite this tragic news, Kidder's daughter, Maggie McGuane, is relieved the truth is now public. "It's a big relief that the truth is out there," McGuane said. "It's important to be open and honest so there's not a cloud of shame in dealing with this."

McGuane stated she knew her mother's death was a suicide when taken to the home. She also noted Montana's high suicide rate and the empathy she feels for the people there going through the same thing. "It's a very unique sort of grief and pain," she said. "Knowing how many families in this state go through this, I wish that I could reach out to each one of them."
