Margo Martindale, a veteran television, film and stage actress, has joined FX's neo-Western Justified, which begins its second season in February.
TV Guide reports that Martindale will play Mags Bennett, matriarch of a marijuana-dealing clan that has warred with the Givens family since Prohibition. "Mags is described as a defender of the old ways, and even at her age, she's more dangerous than ever," the website writes.
The 59-year-old Martindale had recurring roles in Mercy, Dexter and The Riches, and appeared in such films as Orphan, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and Dead Man Walking. Her casting follows that of Lost's Jeremy Davies, who will play Maggie's eldest son Dickie.
Created by Graham Yost (Boomtown, Band of Brothers), Justified is based on the protagonist from Elmore Leonard’s novels Pronto and Riding the Rap and the short story “Fire in the Hole.” The series centers on Raylan Givens (Deadwood's Timothy Olyphant), a no-nonsense, Stetson-wearing lawman who’s reassigned to his native Eastern Kentucky after killing a gun thug in a Miami hotel.
