WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Marauders #10 by Gerry Duggan, Stefano Caselli, Edgar Delgado and VC’s Cory Petit, on sale now.

In Marauders #10, the titular team of sea-faring X-Men go on a new mission that involves taking out an enemy Russian freighter that serves as a moving factory creating dangerous weapons to be used against Krakoa. The Russians have kidnapped a scientist capable of recreating Forge's old power-dampening technology, and the Marauders must save him and destroy anything that could hurt them or any other mutant. As a result, Emma Frost, the White Queen of the Hellfire Trading Company, leads the mission and, to do so, she unveils the X-Men's latest combat ship.

While going into battle against the Russians, Emma, Forge, Pyro, Iceman and Storm board the vessel -- but while they are in the middle of the ocean, they also have backup overhead in the form of a hovering ship called The Mercury: a mysterious UFO-like craft that belongs to the White Bishop, Christian Frost.

Although its true nature has really only just started to become apparent, The Mercury first appeared in Marauders #5. In that issue, Iceman visited Christian Frost inside the ship which, at the time, appeared to be a submarine. After all, it was submerged, and the windowed ceiling showed marine life all around them as they traveled. It would then be once again seen in Marauders #7 and #8, where it would partially surface from the water to reveal its bridge that was, once again, much like that of a submarine.

While Iceman was complimenting the ship in Marauders #8, Emma Frost teased this ship was actually something else entirely: "It's not a boat," she casually told him, before moving on to other topics. At the time, we didn't really know what the White Queen meant. But now, we do: The Mercury is some sort of flying saucer-like ship which could have extraterrestrial origins

It's not just the design of the ship that makes it look like a classic alien UFO -- it's also its abilities. During the Marauders' mission in Marauders #10, The Mercury is shown to shoot a laser blast and cast a powerful light as well as a tractor beam.

The full reveal of The Mercury in Marauders #10 leads to plenty of questions, the first of them asked by certain mutants themselves. Pyro wonders where the ship comes from, and Emma casually dismisses him by answering "A tale for another time." Bishop also gets a similar answer from Christian Frost when he asks him how the Hellfire Trading Company got their hands on a UFO. "Ask the White Queen," Emma's brother says, knowing full well she may not reveal the answer.

What's more, the properties of the ship itself leads to more questions. The Mercury is able to travel underwater, and it can also fly. It also appears like it can change shape, at least in part. The ship is also adaptive: Christian is able to fly it through an interface that looks like a piano. However, he explains that if another were to pilot it, the interface would change to something else. There is therefore a neural connection between the ship and the pilot.

All of this creates a real mystery around The Mercury. There is no doubt that we will eventually learn where it comes from, and how it's able to do everything it does. But in the meantime, as Marauders #10 has proven, this ship is a powerful, surprising tool in the X-Men's arsenal.
