Considering it's less than stellar box office performance (just $55 million earned domestically after a month in theaters), it's safe to say that a lot of people haven't seen Fox's "Fantastic Four" reboot. It's surprising to learn, however, that one of those people is Kate Mara -- one of the four stars of the film.

While speaking with The Times (via Uproxx), Mara admitted that despite walking the red carpet for the film's premiere, she hasn't seen it and has been "a little bit gun-shy" about doing so after all the negative reviews. She also called director Josh Trank's dismissive tweet "highly disappointing," but also said that she couldn't see the film's problems while on set.

"It was a tricky shoot," said Mara, "but you know... When you know when you're shooting it that a film isn't going to be what you want it to be? That was not the case at all." Mara added that she hopes to get the chance to play Sue Storm in a movie that fans enjoy. "That's the thing that makes me most bummed because we have no idea if we'll ever make another one."

Mara might not be sure, but writer/producer Simon Kinberg has told MTV that he's in the process of figuring out how to make an "FF" sequel -- which was greenlit before the first film opened -- work.

"I'm really focused on the next one," said Kinberg. "I was obviously disappointed. I was most disappointed that fans didn't like ['Fantastic Four']. I care more about them than I do anyone else. But I haven't done a full deep dive on it. Do I think it was unfairly treated? I don't know... We're figuring out what [a 'Fantastic Four' sequel] would be. I'd like that to happen."

"Fantastic Four 2" is on Fox's schedule for June 2, 2017.
