Although anime is often adapted from manga, that doesn't mean fans enjoy both the same. Sometimes, someone may prefer the anime over the manga and vice versa. In that case, the users of MyAnimeList have made their choices clear as to which media they enjoy more.

Although not every score is a drastic change between the original work and the adaption, it can be interesting to see how fans think of both of them. Here are 10 manga, which is rated higher than their anime, according to the website MyAnimeList.

10 Diabolik Lovers (Anime: 5.33 VS Manga: 6.56)

Diabolik Lovers Cast

Diabolik Lovers has a complicated history. Although the anime is based on the sadistic romance otome game of the same name that originated on the PSP, the franchise has grown so big since then it has received a manga as an adaption that pairs Yuiーthe heroineーwith her and one of the six Sakamaki brothers.

That's what the Diabolik Lovers Anthology is based upon. Despite the scores still being relatively low, perhaps the fact that the story is more coherent than the anime makes it rank higher .

9 Dogeza: I Tried Asking While Kowtowing (Anime: 5.74 VS Manga: 6.78)

Dogeza: I Tried Asking While Kowtowing

Dogeza: I Tried Asking While Kowtowing has quite an interesting premise. As the name implies, the story is about Doge Suwaru, who tries to ask women for sexual favors while kowtowing, known as dogeza in Japan.

Despite the series being well-received in Japan, it hasn't done wellーeven as a sex comedyーwith fans of MyAnimeList for its premise. Neither the anime nor manga have high scores, but it seems like those who've read the manga are more forgiving to the "plot" of the series.

8 Boruto (Anime: 5.86 VS Manga: 6.89)

It's no secret that fans of Naruto cannot stomach its sequel, Boruto. In the beginning, this was mostly because of the bratty attitude Naruto's son, Boruto, had toward him and his actions.

However, many manga fans have stated that, overall, it is better written than the anime. With Masashi Kishimoto returning to write the manga now, many fans are both nervous and anxious about what that means for both the new and old charactersーand whether death will become a larger factor, like in Naruto Shippuden.

7 Rosario + Vampire (Anime: 6.86 VS Manga: 7.71)

Rosario + Vampire Anime

Rosario + Vampire began as a simple romantic comedy about a teenage boy, Tsukune, who attends a high school for monsters, and the vampire girl, Moka, who loves the taste of his blood. She also had two sides of herselfーInner Moka and Outer Mokaーwith the first having pink hair and silver hair with a bigger bust and red eyes.

The only difference is how different the first part of the manga is compared to the anime adaption that remains as a silly romantic comedy harem even in the sequel. Despite the manga only focusing on the harem aspect, it speaks volumes about how much higher a score it has.

6 Brynhildr In The Darkness (Anime: 6.94 VS Manga: 7.37)

To many Elfen Lied fans, Brynhildr in the Darkness was a disappointment. Although the manga score is considered good, compared to Elfen Lied's score of 8.36, it shows the difference in what they thought of it.

Fans have said the story doesn't hold the same weight as Lynn Okamoto's usual way of plotting, and the anime did no favors by trying to use the nostalgia of his original series to bring in more fans.

5 Deadman Wonderland (Anime: 7.23 VS Manga: 8.05)

Deadman Wonderland is an anime series that desperately needed more than 12 or 13 episodes to be understood, and that's clearly seen in its anime adaption.

Although the anime is rated quite well, fans of the anime have resorted to reading the manga to get a clear ending as to who was the one who framed Ginta and more details on the characters themselves. Without reading the manga, many things will be left open endedーwhich is perhaps why it's rated higher.

4 Super Lovers (Anime: 7.12 VS Manga: 8.16)

Super Lovers Anime Visual

Super Lovers was so well-received by Japanese fans it gained two seasonsーand an OVA. However, the premise is a bit too odd for fans on MyAnimeList, which is why it's rated lower than the manga.

In fact, the anime removes the yaoi part of the boy's love series, with the manga focuses more on that aspect. Despite the romance between the two main characters, removing the yaoi scenes seems to ruin it for some fans.

3 Sailor Moon (Anime: 7.68 VS Manga: 8.21)

Sailor Moon Cast 90s

Sailor Moon is arguably the most recognized magical girl anime amongst the sea of many other ones and has influenced the genre since with its Iconic transformation scenes and attack names.

However, not everyone was a fan of the original 90s anime adaption. Some have stated it dragged in comparison to the other series, while some of the characters' removal has caused the stories to change. The inclusion of filler episodes was also considered tedious, so the manga is ranked higher overall.

2 Black Butler (Anime: 7.77 VS Manga: 8.46)

Black Butler trod a rocky path, especially when it received a sequel series every fan tries to forget existed. With the canon continuation with the adaptions Book of Circus, Book of Murder, and Book of Atlantic, its ratings have gone up.

The first season, however, is rated lower than the overall manga. This is probably because the manga is still ongoing and has way more plot than the two series and one movie. Perhaps other seriesーor movieーwould do it.

1 Tokyo Ghoul (Anime: 7.81 VS Manga 8.53)

Tokyo Ghoul Anime

Tokyo Ghoul is a great example of when anime studios tread far away from the source material. In recent years, the score has gone up with the "official" season that adapted the ending of the manga being rated lower overall.

However, the fact remains that the series is considered one of the best psychological horrors in recent years.
