Manga and anime have been around for decades now, and they only keep getting better. They can be dark and twisty, fun and goofy, full of love and friendships, guts and glory, or sometimes, all of the above. Once you fall down the rabbit hole of the manga and anime world, there's really no turning back.

Everyone has their favourites, naturally. There are some people who can't handle the violence on anime shows like Attack on Titan while others love the mystery and darkness of shows like Death Note. Other times, you just want to have a good time with the show, and that makes shows like Ouran High School Host Club just perfect.

Sometimes though, not every manga translates well to an anime and vice versa. Luckily, we've compiled a list to help you out.

10 MANGA BETTER THAN THE SHOW - BLEACH

While for many, Bleach will always be an amazing anime show, the manga was far superior, especially toward the end. The beginning of the anime, until about halfway, pretty much followed it perfectly.

But then there were some mess-ups along the way, designers started being pushed too hard and falling behind, and eventually, Bleach was reusing plots and storylines and confusing fans along the way. Stick to the manga.

9 ANIME BETTER THAN THE MANGA - NARUTO

Naruto is an anime show that has, in every sense, surpassed everyone's expectations. While some considered it to be a knock-off of Dragon Ball Zit didn't stop it from becoming one of the most popular anime shows of all time.

While the manga is amazing and made for the perfect source material imaginable, the fight scenes were way better to watch in a show. Not to mention, all the emotional moments translated much better to screen.

8 MANGA BETTER THAN THE SHOW - DRAGON BALL Z

We're sure tons of people will disagree with us on this part, but there's a reason it ended up in this category rather than the other one. It's for one reason and one reason only. The power-ups.

Seriously, we're almost sure that every single power-up took more than an episode or at least a full episode. How did no villain realize that they could just eliminate whoever their opponent is when someone was becoming a Super Saiyan? It was the most annoying part of the anime. Even though the manga had long power-ups, you could at least just flip to the last page.

7 ANIME BETTER THAN THE MANGA - TOKYO GHOUL

Okay, we know this one might seem like a long shot. To be fair, Tokyo Ghoul is one of the best manga ever, in particular for the way it is designed.

There is a mass of black throughout its pages, which makes it dark and edgy. It's such a fun read. However, seeing that come to the screen is nothing short of epic. The violence and bloodshed look insane on screen and allows you to be truly put off in the moment. Seriously, it sends shivers down your spine.

6 MANGA BETTER THAN THE SHOW - FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST

Fullmetal Alchemist is still one of the best anime shows ever, but the manga seemed to manage the storyline better than the anime ever could.

The animes sometimes took some liberties in terms of what they put in their show, and while risks can occasionally be a good thing, in this case, it wasn't. However, in the effort of fairness, we should mention that the Brotherhood series is definitely superior to FMA.

5 ANIME BETTER THAN THE MANGA - HAIKYUU

Haikyuu is a really great manga, but it is an even better anime show. We cannot stress this enough: the amount of build up the anime is able to portray in a few episodes, nevermind the entire season, is enough to make you sweat.

It's a show that has you on the edge of your seat, and although it takes directly from the manga, it translates much better on screen than it could ever possibly do in the pages of a manga.

4 MANGA BETTER THAN THE SHOW - BLUE EXORCIST

To be fair, Blue Exorcist's anime isn't better than the show because the manga is running while the anime isn't. So that gives it a disadvantage.

However, even without that, Blue Exorcist would remain superior as a manga just because of the details that the manga paid attention to that the anime didn't. Or, even, the fact that the anime show included things that were never in the manga, to begin with, making it a bit confusing for people.

3 ANIME BETTER THAN THE SHOW - SAILOR MOON

The anime made for one of the most iconic shows of all time, and will likely go down in history along with Dragon Ball Z and Naruto.

Their transformations were not nearly as long as the powerups that we had to go through on DBZ but they definitely were amazing to look at. Plus, even the filler episodes were amazing. They never seemed too far away from the original story, and even if they were, they were too hilarious to pass up.

2 MANGA BETTER THAN THE SHOW - FRUITS BASKET

Fruits Basket wasn't a terrible anime show, not by any means, but the manga was still able to translate the beauty better than the anime managed. The anime felt like it wasn't really trying, and when it did, it went too over the top.

The manga, however, perfectly delivered both the beauty and the extreme joys and sadnesses that the characters have. The show just seemed like it was trying to cut out major parts of those character moments, and it did not translate very well.

1 ANIME BETTER THAN THE SHOW - FREE!

It's pretty safe to say that most sports manga are better as anime shows, just because of the effects. As fun as it is to see characters drawn out, and as much as the drawings may be breathtaking, it's something else entirely when you can have the sports play out on screen.

Free! is an amazing anime that explores the friendships and competitions between swimming teams. It may sound a little boring, but trust us, it's one of the best and underrated animes out there right now.
