Netflix is in the bidding process to purchase the rights to a Manga series adaptation of "Death Note." If Netflix wins the bid, they are looking to begin production around June.

"Paper Towns" actor Nat Wolff has already been cast in the film, as lead character Light Yagami. Light Yagami is a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone whose name he writes in the book.

"Death Note" was originally written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. It has since been the subject of numerous adaptations, including video games, short films, and now a feature film.

According to Variety, Netflix is bidding against Lionsgate and STX for the film, and is expected to come out on top in the $40 - $50 million range. This feature is another move by Netflix to further distribute original content. Netflix's "Beasts of No Nation" was the first original film to score Netflix numerous awards from Empire, the Screen Actors Guild, and the Hollywood Foreign Press.
