Homeland star Mandy Patinkin is in talks to voice Papa Smurfs in Sony Pictures Animation's reboot of its Smurfs franchise, Heat Vision reports.

While 2011's The Smurfs and its 2013 sequel were a blend of live-action and CG animation, this film will be fully animated and more in line with Peyo's original comics. Kelly Asbury (Gnomeo & Juliet) is directing. Jonathan Winters, who passed away in 2013, voiced Papa Smurf in the previous two films.

Winner of both a Tony and an Emmy award, Patinkin voiced Hattori for the English-language release of The Wind Rises.

The Smurfs reboot is scheduled for release Aug. 5, 2016.
