Mandy Patinkin Finds His Homeland

Actor Mandy Patinkin has signed on for a starring role in Homeland, the new Showtime series from former 24 executive producer Howard Gordon.

Homeland focuses on an American soldier's return to U.S. soil for the first time since being captured in the Middle East several years earlier. Claire Danes plays driven CIA officer Carrie Anderson, a woman who suspects that the soldier's return might be the first move in a greater attack against America. Deadline reports that Patinkin is coming on board as Saul Berenson, a CIA division chief that champions Carrie's cause to other high ranking officials and serves as her sounding board.

Patinkin's latest job is a homecoming for two reasons: it's his first television series since his unceremonious departure from Criminal Minds in 2007, for one, but it's also a return to Showtime, the same network that housed his previous work on Dead Like Me.

While we're on the topic of Patinkin, here he is fighting the Dread Pirate Roberts with a lightsaber. Enjoy!
