Disney+'s original series The Mandalorian and WandaVision are dominating the 2021 Emmy nominations, with 24 and 23 nominations respectively.

The Mandalorian is tied with Netflix's The Crown for the show with the most nominations this year. Season 2 of the Best Drama-nominated Star Wars series has two nominations for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (for "Chapter 13: The Jedi" by Dave Filoni and "Chapter 16: The Rescue" by Jon Favreau), two for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series (for Carl Weathers and Timothy Olyphant), one for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (for Giancarlo Esposito) and one for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (for "Chapter 9: The Marshall" by Jon Favreau), in addition to an array of Creative Arts Emmy nominations.

Marvel Studios' WandaVision is a major contender in the Best Limited or Anthology Series category, with nominations for lead actress Elizabeth Olsen, lead actor Paul Bettany and supporting actress Kathryn Hahn. Matt Shakman is nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and three separate episodes are nominated for writing: "Filmed Before A Live Studio Audience" by Jac Schaeffer, "Previously On" by Laura Donney and "All-New Halloween Spooktacular!" by Chuck Hayward and Peter Donovan.

Other sci-fi/fantasy favorites with a strong presence at the Emmys this year include two of the Best Drama nominees, HBO's Lovecraft Country with 18 nominations (including acting nominations for Jonathan Majors, Journee Smollet, Michael K. Williams, Aunjanue Ellis and Courtney B. Vance) and Amazon Prime Video's The Boys with five nominations. Marvel's other Disney+ series in the competition, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, earned five nominations including Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for Don Cheadle.
