Warning: The following contains possible spoilers for The Mandalorian Season 3, which will likely premiere on Disney+ in 2022.

With two seasons of The Mandalorian in the books, it’s clear that the show has been a complete success for the Star Wars franchise. However, the series looks to be changing course for foreseeable future. In the Season 2 finale, Luke Skywalker takes Grogu away to train him as a Jedi. Thus, Din Djarin and his galaxy-spanning quests involving Baby Yoda seem to have come to an end, at least for now.

Hopefully, fans will get to see some of Grogu and Luke training during Season 3, but it appears as if Djarin – and fans by proxy – are going to learn a lot more about Mandalore, its traditional society and its warrior culture in the coming third season. In fact, a new leak indicates that a massive battle will feature countless Mandalorians. In theory, that seems like a cool idea, but, if the spoiler is correct, The Mandalorian will risk the pitfall that still dooms much of Star Wars’ prequel trilogy.

First, let’s look at the likelihood of the leak being true. The short answer is that it’s very possible that numerus Mandalorians could show up. For starters, Moff Gideon has always been deeply involved with Mandalore and even participated in the Empire’s Purge years earlier. On top of that, in the finale, he uses the Darksaber to try and start some kind of feud between Djarin and Bo-Katan. Gideon’s exact endgame is still puzzling. However, it clearly involves trying to start a war, perhaps even on a galactic scale, and there has never been a better way to start a fight than by involving Mandalorians.

Then, there are galactic events to consider. After the Empire’s Purge of Mandalore, most of the inhabitants of the planet fled in a diasporic fashion. So, Bo-Katan’s mission is to retake her planet and organize the resurgence of Mandalore. A whole assortment of Mandalorians coming out of the woodwork to fight whatever forces Gideon has stashed away just might be necessary to accomplish her goal. Of course, that’s assuming that Djarin and Bo-Katan can find a way to unite all the various clans and Gideon doesn’t start civil war between the Mandalorians.

So, it’s possible – and even likely – that there will be a massive battle that features Mandalorians. However, on the flip side of that, it poses the issue of whether there can be too much of a good thing. Star Wars fans don’t have to think too hard to remember a very similar situation. Attack of the Clones did this exact thing by featuring a massive Jedi fight on Geonosis. That fight ended badly for the Jedi in-universe, but it was just as bad from a visual standpoint. Much of that fight looked downright goofy, even if that could be blamed on poor CGI. Multiple animated series and video games have worked to right that wrong, but as the first showing of Jedi Force, it was less than inspirational and lives in infamy.

The long and short of it is that, at the time, the Jedi had been a thing of rumored grandeur. Fans had only been able to guess at the scale of their power, but their fight in the gladiatorial-like arena cheapened their potential. Mandalorians are in a similar place in the Star Wars mythos: kind of mysterious and wildly good fighters. While an action sequence with countless Mandalorians could be cool, it might just be too much to handle well and end up falling short of fans’ expectations.

To see if leaks about a large Mandalorian fight are true, watch The Mandalorian on Disney+. Season 3 will likely premiere sometime in 2022.
