Despite the hype surrounding the franchise, very little is known about The Mandalorian Season 3. Set after the events of The Book of Boba Fett, protagonist Din Djarin will return for more intergalactic adventures now, reunited with the Force-sensitive Grogu. In terms of returning characters, the cast for Season 3 is largely still a mystery but Carl Weathers has previously confirmed that Greef Karga will make an appearance. Giancarlo Esposito, who stars as Moff Gideon in Season 1 and 2, also stated that the Imperial officer would feature. Back to the Future actor Christopher Lloyd was recently announced as a guest star for Season 3 but the identity of his character remains unknown.

The Mandalorian follows protagonist Din Djarin as he embarks on a quest to protect and train Grogu, a child who bears a striking connection to the Force. On their journey, the pair comes across a wealth of Star Wars characters pulled from both Legacy canon and the more recent Clone Wars and Rebels animated series. These include fellow Mandalorian Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) and fan-favorite Jedi Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson).

Debuting in 2019, The Mandalorian quickly became one of Disney+'s most popular shows. It currently stands as the streaming service's most-viewed series, amounting to a total of 14.52 billion total minutes watched over the course of its first two seasons. Marc Guggenheim, the writer of the Han Solo & Chewbacca comic book series, explained that focusing on characters other than Jedi was the key to The Mandalorian's success. "I think what people are responding to is something that’s always been inherent in Star Wars, namely, that it’s a big galaxy," Guggenheim said. "There is enormous room for stories that don’t involve Rebels, Stormtroopers, Skywalkers, or Jedi. The Mandolorian and The Book of Boba Fett just serve to illustrate this point."

The Mandalorian Season 3 premieres on Disney+ in February 2023.
