While Season 3 of The Mandalorian has yet to be released, a new rumor claims the show's future involves a change in both name and focus.Cinelinx editor Jordan Maison took to Twitter to clear up another rumor about the Disney+ Star Wars show, specifically that it will end after the upcoming third season. According to Maison, a fourth season is actually in the works. But following its conclusion, the show will undergo a serious change. "If it ends, I've also heard it'll just morph into a 'new' show that sticks with the characters/time period, but under a new name," Maison claimed.RELATED: Book of Boba Fett Director Discusses Using The Mandalorian's Revolutionary Technology

Maison continued by saying that Season 3 will up the scale, something Season 2 teased with the inclusion of Luke Skywalker. Back in 2020, Moff Gideon actor Giancarlo Esposito also teased a fourth season of the show. Knowing all that and given the show's current popularity, it's hard to imagine it disappearing anytime soon. But could it really change its name?

While plenty of shows, especially animated ones, add subtitles for new seasons to highlight a specific story arc, the idea that a hit show would completely change its name while focusing on the same characters seems like a risky move. Then again, fellow Disney franchise Captain Marvel is shifting to The Marvels for its second film as new heroes are coming aboard. As The Mandalorian expands its roster of characters, and thus its focus, perhaps the singular title of the show won't be as fitting.

There have also been rumors that a new show will see Luke train Grogu. Perhaps instead, The Mandalorian will include those elements, further widening its story and necessitating a new name. As of now, however, all of this is merely rumor and speculation.

On the horizon, The Mandalorian Season 3 is set to start filming soon, according to star Carl Weathers. While the new season will arrive later than the past two, fans will be getting The Book of Boba Fett this December, which will tell a story concurrent to Din Djarin's.

Executive producer and director Robert Rodriguez recently hyped up the new show, saying, "Wait until you see what’s coming. It’s going to blow your mind. That’s all I can say. I can talk it up all I want because I know it over-delivers. It way over-delivers. People are going to be so pumped when they see it."

Season 3 of The Mandalorian does not yet have a release date on Disney+.
