WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 5, "Chapter 13: The Jedi," streaming now on Disney+.

The Mandalorian, "Chapter 13: The Jedi," introduces audiences to Morgan Elsbeth, better known as the Magistrate. Regal and ruthless, Morgan rules over the city Calodan on the forest planet Corvus. She shows her skill in combat when she goes up against Jedi Ahsoka Tano in a lightsaber/beskar staff duel. She's clearly a fighter, a fact which is further proven when Ahsoka mentions that the Magistrate is the last survivor of her home planet. However, the Jedi doesn't say which planet that is.

The question is answered not in the episode, but instead in a since-deleted Instagram post. Head hair stylist Maria Sandoval posted that Morgan hails from Dathomir, a planet which plays a prominent role in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Jedi: The Fallen Order.

Dathomir was a remote and uninviting planet, with a red mist permeating the atmosphere constantly. Its terrain mostly consisted of mountains, swamplands, forests and caves. It was nicknamed "home of the rancors," as the species originated from there. Dathomir was notably the home of the Nightsisters.

The Nightsisters rose to Star Wars prominence in The Clone Wars series. The Nightsisters were a powerful clan of magick-wielding female Dark Side users, also known as the Witches of Dathomir. Mother Talzin was their leader, and was also the mother of Darth Maul. Prior to the Battle of Naboo, Darth Sidious traveled to the planet and took Darth Maul as his apprentice. One of Mother Talzin's fellow Nightsisters also had a child — Asajj Ventress. Her mother was forced to give Asajj over to criminal Hal'Sted in order to protect the Nightsisters.

Both Darth Maul and Asajj Ventress became prominent in the Star Wars universe. As Sidious' apprentice, Maul became a powerful Sith Lord and battled Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace. He was seemingly defeated when he was bisected by Obi-Wan, but he somehow survived. Throughout The Clone Wars, he made his way back to his mother on Dathomir, where she gave him a new pair of legs.

Asajj Ventress took on many titles throughout her life as a slave, a Sith assassin, a Jedi Padawan, a Nightsister and a bounty hunter. After being taken as a slave from her home planet in her early life, she was later discovered by Jedi Ky Narec, who trained her in the Light Side of the Force. Unfortunately, Narec was killed by pirates, leaving an enraged and heartbroken Asajj to embrace the Dark Side. She became Count Dooku's apprentice until he betrayed her, at which point she returned to Dathomir and rejoined the Nightsisters.

Dathomir was eventually destroyed in the Battle of Dathomir, also known as the Massacre of the Nightsisters. The battle took place during the Clone Wars in 20 BBY and the attack was lead by General Grievous. It resulted in the genocide of nearly all Nightsisters on the planet.

Because the Magistrate hailed from the planet, Grievous was clearly not successful in eradicating all of the witches. The history of her home planet shows she came from a long line of of powerful Dark Side Force users and witches, which is why she was so skilled. Unfortunately, her defeat at the hands of Ahsoka Tano means one less Nightsister exists in the Star Wars universe.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, with guest stars Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Directors for the new season include Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Carl Weathers, Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez. New episodes arrive every Friday on Disney+.
