The gargantuan Star Wars fandom has always been split down the middle about the galaxy it loves. They were divided when the prequels were released in the early 2000s and now, years after George Lucas sold the rights to Disney, the fandom continues to be divided with every installment of the sequel trilogy.

Jon Favreau had a conversation with George Lucas about just that during production on his upcoming Disney+ series The Mandalorian. The director and showrunner described this discussion in an interview with GQ Middle East, saying, "We had a long talk with each other," he began. "One thing he said to me was, 'Remember, Jon, the real audience for all stories and all myths is the kids that are coming of age.'"

"We enjoy the stories as adults, but really, storytelling is about imparting the wisdom of the previous generations on to the children who are becoming adults, and giving them a context for how to behave and how to learn the lessons of the past without making the mistakes on their own," he continued. "That’s the hope, that you can teach them how to avoid all the hardship but garner all the wisdom."

The upcoming series revolves around a new character, currently known only as the Mandalorian. The series takes place between the events of the Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Its first season will reportedly feature just eight episodes.
