In the wake of the commercial and critical success of Wonder Woman, it certainly seemed plausible that Warner Bros. might use the planned sequel to 2012's Man of Steel to introduce Supergirl into the DC Extended Universe. However, as with so many online rumors, this one too appears to be false.

Originating with an anonymous source on 4chan, who unpacked equally suspect tidbits about other DCEU films -- Nightwing, Wonder Woman 2, Suicide Squad 2 and even a sequel to Matt Reeves' The Batman -- the rumor contended Man of Steel 2 is being developed in secret, with Brainiac as the villain and Supergirl as a supporting player.

Never mind that Man of Steel 2 hasn't exactly been a secret (it's been confirmed by Amy Adams, as well as Henry Cavill's agent), TheWrap's Umberto Gonzalez quickly popped up to shoot down not only the Supergirl rumor, but also the others in the forum thread.

While The Batman, Nightwing and a Suicide Squad sequel are in the development pipeline, and Wonder Woman 2 is a no-brainer, Warner Bros. has yet to officially announce Man of Steel 2 -- with or without Supergirl.

Wonder Woman is now in theaters. The next installment of the DCEU arrives Nov. 17 with Justice League.
