It probably goes without saying by now that one of the major criticisms of the DC Extended Universe has been its reliance on dark, brooding characters, grim depictions of the world, and rather dour overall tone. The "Justice League" sizzle reel and "Wonder Woman trailer released at Comic-Con International seem to hint at brighter things to come, to the relief of fans. It remains to be seen whether that tone makes it to the big screen, but that didn't stop YouTuber Stu Whitten from imagining the next Superman-led DCEU film as something as a bit more optimistic and, well, enjoyable.
The result, a fan-made teaser for "Man of Tomorrow," combines scenes from both "Man of Steel" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" to present a more classic version of the Caped Crusader as he battles Zod and Lex Luthor, all set against Jor-El's uplifting speech to his young son from the first movie. The result is undoubtedly a tad more heroic, leaving out the running theme of self-doubt and cynicism Clark Kent seems so concerned with in Zack Snyder's depictions. Check out the faux-trailer below to compare it with the versions already seen in the first two entries into the DCEU.
Audiences will learn whether DC Films' superheroes manage to lighten up when "Wonder Woman" arrives June 23, 2017 and "Justice League" hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
