Henry Cavill admitted recently that, upon seeing Superman's suit for the first time, he was worried he wasn't fit enough to play the superhero in Man of Steel.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill explained how he wasn't as confident during the first try-on, stating, "If I'm going to be honest, what was going through my mind was, 'Lord, I'm too fat to be wearing this suit right now.' And also, 'I can't believe I'm actually doing this' — there was a sense of excitement, achievement and nervousness."

In the profile, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder recalled the moment he first saw Cavill donning the suit for the film. "When you see the suit on the ground, it's kind of shriveled up, it's just spandex, it looks like, 'Oh God, that's not going to be cool,'" Snyder explained. "Henry put it on in this trailer. And there’s a version of this where he comes out and is like, 'I'm Superman!' and you're like, 'OK, it's Halloween.'"

According to the director, however, that wasn't the case with Cavill. "Henry came out and even the crusty grips we hired for the test got quiet," Snyder remembered. "Everybody was heart attack serious. He had just the right energy. We were like, "Oh, he's Superman. That's what Superman looks like.'"

While there aren't currently any plans for Cavill to return as Superman in the DC Extended Universe after Zack Snyder's Justice League, Eternals director Chloé Zhao recently shared that Richard Madden's portrayal of Ikaris in the MCU was heavily inspired by Snyder's Superman films. "Out of all the modern interpretations of Superman, Zack Snyder's Man of Steel inspired me the most because it covered the myth in a very authentic and real way," she said at the time. "I remember when I saw the trailer, I thought it was Superman by Terrence Malick. The film left a huge impression on me. But Ikaris is certainly our own interpretation of Superman."

Following Zhao's comments, fans of Snyder's work took matters into their own hands and got "Zack Snyder Is the Blueprint" trending across social media. Comedic tweets supporting that theory included explanations such as, "He literally invented Western mythology. If you believe otherwise, read a book," and "The goat, the film boss, the zaddy, the universe builder, the visionary."
