Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice writer David S. Goyer doesn't know for sure if Henry Cavill will get another crack at the Last Son of Krypton, but he thinks there's still potential.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about his long career in the world of comic book movies and TV shows, Goyer was asked about the continually swirling rumors of Cavill once again donning the cape and tights.

"I think so," Goyer said when asked if there was still a story to tell with Cavill's Superman. "I’m not involved in it right now. I’ve heard the same rumors you’ve heard, but I’m not plugged into it. I’ve stepped away almost entirely from comic book-related projects other than Sandman, which I don’t really categorize as part of the normal DC universe. And I’m doing a Batman podcast. I’ve actually done so many adaptations of comics that I needed a break. I didn’t want to get into a rut. That’s why I’m doing Foundation and some other films, like The Night House and Antlers.

As Goyer notes, he's working on an adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic Sandman with Neil Gaiman for Netflix. While the character has been folded into the DC Universe, the tale being told is one relatively on the outskirts. And for the adaptation, it's unlikely that anything besides Easter eggs to DC will be included given that Netflix rival HBO Max has its own DC projects in the works.

Despite Goyer not being involved, the talk of Man of Steel 2 refuses to die down. Cavill dodged a question about the Superman sequel the last time he was asked, but Man of Steel director Zack Snyder has repeatedly talked about the possibility of more stories involving Cavill's take on the hero.

"We talked about a Brainiac movie," Snyder recently said of his ideas for who Superman could face in another film. "I do think that the Kryptonians that are in the Phantom Zone are probably still around. And there was always a possibility for their return. Faora and whoever’s left. That was a thing that was always out there that we talked about as a possible sequel."

As it stands, Warner Bros. hasn't officially announced a sequel to Man of Steel. The company has, however, revealed Ta-Nehisi Coates will write his own take on Superman. Goyer's adaptation of Isaac Asimov's Foundation premieres Sept. 24 on Apple TV+.
