'Mama' Director Climbs 'Shadow of the Colossus'

Josh Trank will no longer scale Shadow of the Colossus, Sony's long-gestating adaptation of the epic fantasy video game. Instead, Variety reports Mama director Andrés Muschietti will helm the film.

The game focuses on a young warrior who travels to a faraway land, seeking an ancient being's help in bringing the woman he loves back to life. The ancient one promises to help the warrior, but only if he travels around the land slaying enormous monsters known as colossi. The task is easier said than done, for a variety of dark and deadly reasons.

"We knew we had our director once we heard Andy’s take on the material – it was genius," De Luca said. "The themes, characters and supernatural elements of the story have incredible international appeal with fans of the game in the millions."

There is no release date for Shadow of the Colossus just yet.
