The following contains spoilers for X-Men Red #5, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Cable has a weapon so powerful it was banned from warfare in the future; however, even the strength of all its might is unable to stand in the way of Thanos' "grandfather" Uranos.

X-Men Red #5 comes from writer Al Ewing, artist Stefano Caselli, colorist artist Federico Blee and letterer VC's Ariana Maher. In the issue, Uranos -- a relative of Thanos who he refers to as "grandfather" -- has made his way to Arako after he's set free for one hour by Druig, the current Prime Eternal. While Marvel's Judgment Day #1 shows the aftermath of Uranos' visit to the X-Men's planet, X-Men Red #5 reveals how much damage the villain can cause.

A Major X-Man Now Possesses One of Marvel's Most Destructive Weapons

Standing in Uranos' way are Magneto, Cable, Abigail Brand and a handful of others, all of whom stand next to no chance against Uranos. When Uranos rips Magneto's heart out mid-battle, Cable reveals a weapon called the Omega-One Pulse Rifle. "[It's] the most powerful gun in Cable's arsenal," narration text reveals. "It fires bullets of ultra-dense solid light along a tunnel of hard radiation that can melt Osmium. In the year 3877, it will be classed as a weapon of absolute destruction and banned from use in warfare. It weakens Uranos. That is all."

Uranos Fires Back Against Cable

Cable proceeds to fire the weapon at Uranos for three and a half minutes before it begins to overheat and jam. Uranos fires back with a weapon of his own which seemingly melts half of Cable's face off in seconds, leaving the fate of the longtime X-Men character unknown. Cable, who first appeared as an infant in 1986's The Uncanny X-Men #201 before debuting as his adult self in 1990's The New Mutants #87, is a time-traveler who grew up in the future. The son of Cyclops and Madelyn Prior, Cable/Nathan Summers eventually returned to the present-day and has since been associated with the X-Men.

Uranos' conquering of Arakko is only one phase of Druig's plan to wipe out the X-Men. In Immortal X-Men #5, the Prime Eternal unleashed a powerful enemy known as the Hex on Krakoa to kill all of its mutant inhabitants. Judgment Day #2 sees the Avengers join in the fight against the Hex, an entity which is eventually called off Krakoa when Iron Man, Ajak, Makkari and an imprisoned Mister Sinister create an ultra-terrifying Celestial who declares he's come to "judge" Earth.

X-Men Red #5 features cover art by Russell Dauterman and Matt Hollingsworth and variant cover art by Taurin Clarke. The issue is on sale now from Marvel.
