Thanks to the structure of the Marvel multiverse, there are nearly countless versions of every hero and villain. Sometimes, they are similar to their Earth-616 counterparts. Other times, they take on major new roles and have completely different personalities. One of the most unexpected changes to a character is Major Deadpool, who is essentially his world's Captain America.

This is how one world's Wade Wilson became a bizarre fusion of Deadpool and Cap.

Who Is Major Deadpool?

While trying to return his zombified, alternate reality self back to its home reality, the 616-version of Deadpool confronted one of the most responsible versions of himself from across the multiverse.

Major Wade Wilson of Earth-6466 is an operative of his world's S.H.I.E.L.D. In this world, the United States has merged with Canada to form the United States of North America. Major Deadpool is a dedicated protector of civilians and a decorated soldier. Believing Deadpool and the head of Zombie-Pool to be the advance guard of a coming invasion, Major Deadpool quickly captures and interrogates Deadpool.

Major Deadpool is a hard-nosed and serious figure, surprisingly different than most versions of the character. Out of concern for the security and safety of the rest of his nation, Major Deadpool is content holding the Earth-616 Deadpool against his will. Eventually growing tired of Deadpool's snark, Major Deadpool challenges him to a fist-fight. He removes his uniform and reveals he is unscarred from the process that granted him his healing factor -- which just infuriates the core universe Deadpool even more.

The two are fairly evenly matched in combat, at least until Deadpool feints his death die to prolonged separation from the Zombie-Pool and is able to get the drop on Major Deadpool. Knocking him out, Wade makes sure to pummel him while he's unconscious, specifically trying to ruin his good looks. After stealing his clothes, Deadpool then finds the Zombie-Pool in time to jump to another reality, just as Major Deadpool awakens and rallies his troops to attack the pair.

What Happened to Major Deadpool?

Despite being an engaging idea for an alternate reality Deadpool, Major Deadpool never got the chance to do much. His next appearance featured his demise at the hands of the mass-murdering multiversal Deadpool in Deadpool Kills Deadpool, after he had come to believe the key to wiping out the multiverse was to destroy each and every version of Deadpool in existence.

It's a shame, too. Deadpool's long-running appreciation of Captain America makes the fact that there's a world where he embraced that ideology very interesting. He seems to be a Deadpool who never had to suffer fractures to his psyche and is completely in control of his actions. Major Deadpool was more focused than almost any version of the character and dedicated in a way the notoriously flaky Deadpool rarely is.

It would have been interesting to see how this version of Deadpool could have bounced more off the 616-incarnation of the character, enraging and inspiring Wade. Seeing a version of him with his life together -- but without his trademark sense of fun -- could have been a welcome call to Deadpool to either reevaluate himself or even confirm how much he actually enjoys being who he is.

If nothing else, it's a shame Major Deadpool hasn't appeared at some other point to confront a version of Captain America. In one world, at least, Wade did become like Steve which is something the 616-Wade attempted as an Avenger, before being led astray by HYDRA Cap.
